<quoted text>Yeah it is, your basically giving the government the power to raise your kids when you allow them to make laws like this. Where is the line drawn?
I don't think so. You can buy them all the junk food you want. If this law passes you will just not be doing that with government money; the same government money that pays for their skyrocketing health care costs partially due to the bad food their parents give them.

You will just have to do it with money you may earn. People who work daily to make a living have to budget and make choices about where they will spend their money. We all need to learn to budget our time and money and quit thinking that we are entitled to anything. Cooking in the kitchen with your children is fun and can be a valuable learning experience for them too.

And as far as the birthday cake remark. I have a neighbor and the mother has always made the birthday cakes for each of her children. No, I don't mean the gobs of crisco frosting type of cake; but the cake of their choice that the whole family can eat and enjoy. It actually means more when their Mom spends the time and energy to do this for her children. And, a new trend for children's parties is cupcakes or cake pops, both easy to make and less mess for the children.

There ya go. There's that old "I'm entitled to everything" attitude that all of us hard working people appreciate hearing so much. That is why I say stop the programs completely. Previous generations didin't need to be carried. People prior to Vietnam possessed spines, were driven by personal fortitude, and motivated by a willingness to acheive. Generations today primarily desire others to do all the work, make all the sacrifices, and then to hand over what they have earned. You say move to another country. This is MY country. I've earned it, I've defended it, and I struggle to remain proud of it, but it gets to be difficult to love a tick infested dog. It isn't the dog that's bad, but the blood sucking ticks damn near make it untouchable. Try to wrap that simple mind around that and then, f ck yourself to bleeding.
I think you're forgetting why previous generations didn't NEED to be carried. They had their own pigs and cows to slaughter, cows to milk, they churned their own butter, they had chickens from which to gather eggs and to kill for a nice chicken n dumplin supper, they had gardens, canned their own veggies, rarely needed to go any farther than they could walk...When they did drive somewhere, gas was only a few cents a gallon. A man was paid a good wage for an honest days work.
Times changed my friend. Over the last 3 or 4 decades the cost of living sky rocketed while the wage was kept to a minimum. If you and your children lived on nothing but peanutbutter sandwiches and milk, it would cost you almost 9 dollars for a gal of milk, a loaf of bread, and a jar of peanutbutter--plus $3.30 per gal of gas to get you to the store. Think about that.
I know some elderly folks that have to choose between buying a few groceries or buying their medicine--some of which FOUGHT in that Vietnam war you mentioned. This IS America and it's just not right that our own people have to live like that. If all the programs were stopped like you want, people really would starve and a big percentage of them would be children. But I suppose you couldn't care less about that. How sad.

I agree IF you're already struggling financially. But there are situations where everything was just swell when people had their children, then the bread-winner gets hurt and can't work anymore or gets laid off or something like that. What about those people? What is the answer for them?

If they know that soda and candy is bad enough that they want to take it away from people, why are they still making it.They need to shut down all these places that are making soda drinks and candy to save all these children from getting hurt.

It is the parent's responsibility to be adults and feed their children properly. Wait a minute, I guess your statement was a joke...

What some of you say is true. There are situations that do necessitate folks receiving assistance. That doesn't bother me. Most receiving assistance are not entitled to what they receive. Recently a chiropractor and his wife were busted for drawing housing assistance while living in a 1.2 million dollar home and driving jaguars. I know of people living much better than I, driving more luxurious vehicles, and receiving college aid for their kids, while not working an hour. Worse than that is that they manage to bowl twice a week and are actually healthy enough to do it. I'm damn near broken down from working 60-70 hours a week for decades and my kids weren't entitled to receive reduced lunches in school much less college handouts. They've been forced to do it the old fashioned way, earn it. I'm sure it's easier to live off of someone else's labor, but that's just wrong on every level. If a person receives aid of any type and is not invalid or immoble, then their asses should be picking up trash, painting, whatever, but not sitting at home on a computer in front of a plasma television that they can't afford to own and should not have. Hell, I can quit my job and even receive a free cell phone and internet. Are you kidding me? And some of you feel that you're entitled to b tch about proposed constraints on the freebies. This nation will spiral to hell soon enough. Because of the parasites. But that's cool, because the ticks will perish too without a host. Maybe canada will take you in. No, wait a sec, they won't either. They choose not to destroy their country. Guess we're the stupid ones.

The bottom line is this. Assistance should be overseen and restricted much more rigidly than is currently being done. Those determined to be committing criminal acts, using illegal drugs, earning money under the table, above and beyond the permissable limit, or defrauding the gov't. in an effort to receive aid, should immediately lose said aid and face criminal prosecution up to and including the loss of dependents. Healthy, capable people should only receive aid until they attain gainful employment and that should be mandated and time limits should be strictly enforced. Socialism is not the way. The host will eventually succumb, it has to. A nation is only as strong as its inhabitants and enabling weakness only promotes weakness. Read the news, look around, wake up. Our forefathers would feel shame and likely disgust.

Amazing.. Some people really are more stupid then I thought was possible!!!! And not only stupid what about doing unto others as your want done unto you? If people would say that to themselves daily, maybe this world would be a better place!

The world we live in is a sad place. I pray for the greedy and the poor. I pray for everyone in between. Some people are truly in need of assistance while the ones whom abuse this and cause the uproar don't care because they know they'll find a way around the new laws to still support their habit!

I have worked since I was 16 starting at Mcdonalds. Now I work in a public service setting to where I go to someones house a 2am to pick up the dad or mom whom has overdosed to try to save their life for their child's/families sake!

But how is this fair to the kids? They don't pick their parents, they can't help they love them, its human nature. There is many different ways this can be handled, but I do pray my fellow "working" class that you remember your attitudes when your the one who is down and out, and when you go to the "foodstamp" office I hope you remember your little slogan and your cold-hearted attitude but I hope you do get the help you need!

the kids didn't get to choose their parents. some have the misfortune of having dope heads for parents. Don't punish the kids.

You cut foodstamps and you will bankrupt the local economy. It's almost totally dependent on welfare. Walmart,Food City ,Kmart and even the state assistance offices will be laying off people. Even the tattoo parlors will have to close.
