You'll have to get a long distance number, but you are not roaming because they use Appalachians towers. I have Verizon with an Ashland number, but can use it normally. The only bad part is that it's long distance for anyone who calls you.

But when I call them to order it they refuse me service because of my address, I don't want to lie about that, and besides I don't have another address to give them lol.

That's strange. You may have to go to a store. There's one in Logan. If you lie about your address, you may get roaming here, so don't do that. I've had Verizon for over two years, never had a problem.

Hello love, "Road Rage" is correct; I had a Verizon account, I had to travel to Logan WV. to get everything set up; the online store denied my address as well, but the store in Logan had no problem setting me up.
My number was also an Ashland number, & it was long distance; but many have state to state calling these days.
I had to pay out of my contract & switch back to Appalachian Wireless (as bad as I did not want to)
I travel to Lexington frequently for my business & for some reason it would not pick up,(very spotty) Verizon sincerely tried to fix the problem; but could not.

Thanks for the information. That is unfortunate about Lexington, I go there all the time, but always thought Lexington had great Verizon coverage. I would stick with app wireless but they are too hard to deal with if you travel outside the 20 county region.

i am unsure but i have seen in their ads, that they sell phones and can set it up thru verizon
i personally use a tracfone
yes i know it is old school, however, my phone has internet, i can facebook, email, take pics, i can pretty much do anything anyone with an expensive phone can do
and my phone has triple mins for life, if i buy 200 mins, i get 600
for the life of the phone
so i end up buying maybe 3 cards a year, for a total of 120 per year
that is less than what most ppl pay per month
its not so bad, but i am wanting to try the iphone, so im saving my pennies....

Very funny, I happen to work for a living and will be paying for my phone as I have all my phones...

Anyway, I don't even know where Logan is lol I'm a Floyd County girl haha. I seen a Verizon store in Ashland a few weeks ago, but im afraid to tell them I have an address that they don't service. Worth a try I guess!

P.S. I called Radio Shack in Pikeville, they only sell AT&T pre-paid phones, what the hell

Trust me, they won't tell you no just because of your address. Yes, I remember a store in Ashland. I never bought any of my phones or plans from them, but I'm sure it's just like Logan. The saleswoman had talked us into buying their home phone box because she said that they'd be in Pikeville by January 1st of 2011. As you can see, we still don't have it. I transferred that 2 year contract to another cell because my family refused to call me long distance with an Ashland number.

Williamson, WV and Wise, Va both have Verizon stores that you can go to. I know this because I have been to both and actually bought two phones and was set up and activated before I left the store; that was about a year ago and that was the store at Wise, Virginia.....I ended up going back to App. Wireless though but I am pretty sure you can go to either of those locations as they both would a closer drive for you than Logan and I live in Pikeville and that was not an issue. Like the others said you will have to choose an Ashland number is you want to keep a (606) number otherwise they were going to give me a Virginia number. Verizon roams off of App Wireless so they are allowed to sell service to folks from Eastern, KY. You just can't do it online though because those representatives are from way out of here and they are not completely up to date with their own coverage map. Hope that helps.

That settles it, thank you. Just a curiosity though, if I might. Why did you switch back to Appalachain wireless? Again, totally none of my business, just curious.

Oh yea, free mobile to mobile anytime with Verizon service. Do you have your 10 numbers listed also so that when you call one of them, it doesn't take your minutes? You can even list landlines and you don't waste your minutes on it.

You're welcome! well I will be totally honest. Everyone has their own personal opinions and experiences with companies but I decided to give Verizon a try about a year ago because they offer the latest phones as where appalachian wireless is about a year behind. So I went to the Verizon store in wise, va ( its in the same plaza as their super walmart) and I got one smart phone and one basic phone; they activated it for me and my service when I got to Pikeville was fine. However, I work in Virginia and I was hoping to get 3g speeds and the representative at Verizon told me that I would.....but that never happened; in fact even where I work verizon was still roaming off of app wireless. At that time, the fastest speed I was able to get was an extended 1x which was very slow! I do know for a fact that now that is not the case as I know some people that have their service with Verizon from Eastern, KY and Pikeville and they get 3g speeds.....but what got me turned against Verizon was that they told me I had a worry free 30 day no hassle return policy if I ended up not liking the phones or service. So whenever I took the phones back to get my refund they denied me because when I bought the phones the representative told me before I walked out the door that I needed to mail in the rebates that the phones came with ASAP...and for that reason I ended up with a big mess! and another thing you should know is that the verizon stores in wise and the one in williamson are NOT corporate Verizon stores; they sell verizon phones and services but they are independently owned and can basically make their own rules up so to sum it up I had a bad experience with them and will never consider them again. That doesn't mean you will have a bad experience though.... appalachian wireless has just always been good to me and honest and if I had an issue they always resolved it and right now if you compare a data plan and unlimited talk and text with one add on it will be $20 cheaper with app wireless; that is a fact! but its not like everything with app wirless is perfect for me; I often have texting issues , etc and I hear a lot of people that are verizon customers say they seldom ever have those problems so I guess you will just have to compare prices, do a little research and hopefully choose whas best for you....hope that helps...

I have death with Appalachian Wireless, paid the thousands of dollars. They are crooks! I have had Verizon going on 2 years here in Pikeville and I absolutely love it. I get service in my house and its a 2 story with 3g. I will never ever go back to Appalachian Wireless and on top of that I got a great phone, better plan and much cheaper bill! TY Verizon!
