What is considered overpaid? That's a comparative thing. To someone working in fast food, what a coal miner makes would seem large. To someone that makes much more than a coal miner, they would think are underpaid. I probably make much more than the average miner, but I can't imagine someone thinking that miners are over paid. Sure, mining is much safer than it was years ago, but the work conditions are not what most would consider ideal. I have family members and friends who work in the mines and I can't think of one that really wants to be there. But it does pay better than most other jobs, so they stay. Still, it isn't that great of money considering the economy now and what the kind of work most miners do.
You make much less than a Janitor.

Well, then tell me how much do I make? Did I pay an income tax or did I pay a capital gains tax last year? Do I work for someone or am I self employeed? Would I hire you for my company? Would you have to have a high school diploma and/or college degree. Assuming you could leave your mommy long enough.

Wait people--dumb reply coming.

yeah it is why don't you crawk back under that rock you've been living under. I hope coal goes away for ever and one day it will. Coal is a finite resource. Once it is gone it's gone. That is why solar wind and hydro are and always will be a better choice to be on for the future of the nations energy. Moron

I went to college and have a nice job, too. It appears you are underpaid as well. I did not say that miners were the only ones underpaid, did I? I think alot of people are underpaid. I think that the majority of college educated people are underpaid. But the post topic did not state that college educated people were overpaid; It did not say that government employees were overpaid; it did not say Power Company employees were overpaid, nor did it say fast food managers were overpaid. It said that coal miners are over paid. I responded to that. Now if the topic had been are college graduates underpaid I would have replied with a hardy YES! Remember, I said it was a COMPARATIVE thing. Perhaps to you they are overpaid, but to many people they are not. I think they are underpaid based on the type of work they do just as I think most college graduates are underpaid based on the money and time they spent in college. If this had been a post on whether college grads were overpaid then I probably would have offended a miner.

So in reality if coal miners were paid less coal would be cheaper. So coal would be the cheaper source of energy and not natural gas. So here is one for ya miner take a pay cut and we can put you back to work.

few and far between. The coal companies try to kill them out so they can keep everyone thinking coal is good for the environment.

My husband has work in the mines for the last 21 years and I can tell by the way that you talk that you have not work. And if so you must be over paid also.

As we can tell from this post that you, "have not work" either. I am sorry, but I dont see how you can tell if someone has worked or not by how they type on a gossip website. I have worked my whole life, tell me what job I do. How much education I have. What kind of house I live in. I know people who had to quit school and didnt finish high school. They had to feed and support their families. They are very successful. I will also say that times are different now then they was 50 years ago. Back' then, you could do that and still make a great living. Now, not so much. Back to your post, are we to assume that you have not had a job for 21 years but you wish to say you can tell by how they talk that they "have not work"? Is that from your personal experience because you talk the same way because you "have not work" in 21 years also?
