Customers of Appalachian Wireless. This message if for you. All I ask is that you read this and ask yourself if any of what I am about to say applies to you. How many of you are tired of the service you get? How many of you are tired of paying hard earned money for a cell phone that only works sometimes. How many of you are tired of failed text messages and slower than dial-up data rates? And dropped calls. Those things would upset most people. Espically when they realize that its because of appalachian wireless we cant ave better service in this area. Their lock on all the airspace prevents any other company from putting up more towers to improve our service and our technological lives. They are unable or unwilling to improve the service we receive. Before I switched whenever I would call to complain about an issue all they would say is we will look into it. With nothing even being done to help. Does that sound familiar to anyone else? We have a choice now we can switch to Verizon so some people could say we have no right to complain. But what most people don’t realize is that Verizon has their hands tied directly because of Appalachian Wireless. Verizon would spend the money to put enough towers to provide good coverage and data rates if they were able. You are forced to sign a contract with Appalachian Wireless that reads they can guarantee you the service but not the coverage. Which means….if you come to where their towers are you can use your phone…not use it where you need it. The bottom line of my rant is. We as the people of this area deserve better technology. And unless we complain and fight a company lacking the knowledge to provide that service we are not going to get any better. There are things we can do. We can report them to the better business bureau. We can write letters to the FCC asking them to allow Verizon or any other carrier the rights in this area because Appalachian Wireless wont provide better service. But mostly of all write out congressmen about it. The more complaints they hear the more likely they will do something. We all work hard for our money and we all want to get value for what we spend. So make your voices heard. Step aside appalachian wireless. You have had your chance to bring in quality service. You failed. All you can do is pretend you know what you are doing.

Well if you don't like them. You don't have to use their service go to AT&T

well I have been with them for about 8 years now and when my contract expires i wont renew. i live in belfry and service here is almost as bad as two cans and a string. i would switch to at and t in a heartbeat if I could but there are no towers here. don't know if its because they can't put up a tower here or not interested enough.

I too was with Appalachian Wireless. Poor , Poor Service If any in my region. After my contract was up I did switch to AT&T. Not much coverage with them either; but mind you I live in a hole in the wall basically; Rt. 197 near Shelby Gap so pretty much a dead zone.

I now have Trac Fone which works fine for me as I'm not an avid text user. I do however travel to many states with my employment and my trac fone has service throughout my travels, no contact either, another plus. Now they have tripple minutes and they offer different packages for those who do a bit of texting.
Hope this helps

First of all, let me say this. Verizon Wireless isn't going to spend millions of dollars in Eastern KY for just a few thousand customers. They use Appalachian Wireless simply because it is more economically sensible for them to pay App Wireless for roaming rather than to spend a fortune for only a few customers. App Wireless has nothing to do with Verizon not coming here.

2nd, App Wireless has over 200 towers in Eastern KY alone (at least that's what one of their reps told me in the store the other day). AT&T only has around 30. So if you're complaining about not getting signal, you must live in an area where the sun won't even reach. Seeing as to how you posted this in Ivel, I'm assuming you are close to their home office, which I believe is somewhere around Ivel.

No cell service provider is going to give you signal everywhere you go. It's just simply not possible.

App Wireless' rates are cheaper than any of the national carriers and the phones they receive are the same ones the national carriers receive, albeit a little later than the national guys. For what I use my cell phone for, I've never had any issues with them personally and I've been a customer for nearly 8 years myself.

Not to mention the fact that they plan on launching 4G LTE in this area before the end of the year, making them the 1st and only carrier in Eastern KY to offer 4G speeds.

So if you ask me, I think they are doing a mighty fine job myself.

No they aren't doing a good job. Whomever informed you was pulling your leg lol. When you are sitting within visual distance from the tower and you have full bars and you drop a call...that's not good service. As far as Verizon not coming in and taking over your right. Why would they? The people of this area do deserve better service and it looks like Verizon stepped up to the plate and partnering with App Wireless for the LTE and is doing the best they can to bring technology into the area. Without their help App Wireless would not have a clue. As far as phones .....if you were informed you would realize we are at least one generation behind. When people realize that Verizon is holding AW's sure they will switch.

I had AW for years and recently switched to Verizon. I switched for personal reasons. The service seems similiar . I got good service then and now, but Verizon representatives were deceptive , in the process of signing up. It ended up costing me more for less.
So, I think Appalachian is not as overpriced as people claim, compared to Verizon and for me the service was fine. Service , i think, will vary in the mountains of E Kentucky.

Is there any of those cells that you buy and then just pay for a card each month really any good.
I have seen some advertisments that you can get an unlimited call and text for around 50 bucks a month.
And net service for a little bit more.

What brands work in Eastern KY, and the ones that allow you to keep your number.
I am on a 69. dollar plan unlimited with App Wireless but that plan is always over 100+ every month with all the taxes.

I have never liked App. Wireless but I have carried their phone for years, seems like all the other providers charge about the same. Service is the but I will never sign another contract with anyone again.

Any info on the month by month cell would be helpful.
