so I found out the utility regulatory commission does not deal with piggott...they do clay county but not piggott...Piggott is a incorporated business and its own entity...so my next step is to call the feds and see what they can do, and check into a class action law suit against them.

How are they getting away with this?

I know they all stick together and most of them are related to each other one way or another, but they aren't above the law.

Do you think calling a federal agaency will really help?

I'll give it a try as well, what they are doing with our electric is criminal!!!

They are getting away with it because no one in this town ever questions them or makes them tow the damned line...well, that is about to damned well change...I guarantee you that damned much....Alot of people are pissed in this town and will just take the right motivation to get all these people to bond together and run these idiots out of office.

Yes, please do call anyone and everyone you can about this matter.

The regulatory commission thought I was lying at first...they said if they are really charging that amount for a late fee then they need to be held accountable for their actions. He said he was absolutely dumbfounded that the town leadership here in Piggott would actually stoop this low against it's own citizens, but unfortunately he couldn't do anything himself about it because although they regulate clay county coops rates they have no control over piggott because they are a incorportaed business and their own entity, but he said he would deffinately start calling whoever he could to try to get something done about it.
How much is the late fee

I'm a former Piggott resident, and hate to hear what's happened to the electric bills. How much are they charging?

Well for the elctric itself they are charging around 14 cents per kilowatt hour...which in itself is highway robbery and higher than any surrounding area...but they are charging 10% for the late fee, and when you combine that with the high rates...yep, your right...you better pay on time or your late fee may break the bank.

For example...I have heard of alot of people having 500.00 plus bills this last month...well, their late fee for that would be $50.00 which is unbelieveable...$50.00 is what some people in other areas pay for their total electric!!!

Not to mention the chickens are now not sending out the bills until the first of the month due to people raising hell in their town meetings at the end of the months....so you have 10 days when you get your bill to pay or you face the late fee...isn't that nice?

Thats ok....there are quite a few people calling around now to see what can be done about all this...I hope it brings them to their knees...they deserve it.

Hate to tell you this but you are not paying a "late" fee. The greater amount is what your actual bill is. If you pay early that the deadline you are given a discount. But don't take my word for it, call them and they will explain.

Hate to tell you, but if you took their word for that you need help.

If that was a discount instead of a late fee, then explain to me why if you wait till after the 10th you get the other amount which ends in you getting a disconnect if not paid by the 20th.

You cannot trust everything you hear from those idiots on the hill.

I have heard numerous times out of their own mouths this charge being called a late fee, BRAD calls it a late fee, the utility regulatory commission calls it a late fee....are you ready for this....IT IS A LATE FEE!!!, if it wasnt there wouldnt be a disconnect after the 20th...that is the normal way things are done...you have a due date, then a late charge after that due date, then a disconnect date. I cannot believe you actually bought their bullshit...rofl

Let me give you some free advice.....when dealing with the leadership in Piggott...the exact opposite of what they tell you is the truth.

Man, some people are so damn gullible...and people wonder how these idiots got into power to begin with...

I hate to tell you even further...The damned mayors office has even called this a late fee!!!

My God people...don't let these assholes bullshit you like that...use your head people...they are lying to you, and have been for years now.

Don't believe me, don't take their word for it...call the utility regulatory commission, the governors office, the BRAD office...they will all tell you the same thing...IT'S A LATE FEE!!!

and then who's word you gonna take?...the governor or Gerald (I Can't do math which is what got us into this electric mess to begin with) Morris?

My bill last month was $412.....if I paid after the 10th it went up to $451.....thank god I got it paid before then. Sometime I think they just write numbers down for us to pay. I can't stand the way this town is run, and I most def. think it needs to start with a new Mayor.

Learn to read...I do pay on time, that's not the point.

The point is what they are doing and how it is illegal, maybe if you would pull your head out of their ass you could understand a logical conversation next time!!

so easy for some to say...i work (so you don't have to start in on the welfare thing) at a job that requires a degree(so you don't have to start in on 'being better prepared) in a profession that is vital. my bill this month was HALF of my monthly income. i paid mine on time by the grace of God. some folks just can't get it paid on time. the rates their charging are just overwhelming for the means of the majority of the people in this town.

I no longer live in Piggott and have lived in Poplar Bluff, Hayti, and now Rector. In all 4 towns, the electric/water bills have all been due on the 10th of the month. I have always had a job and have a degree. I know when my bill is due and budget to pay that bill by the due dates. In all 4 towns, there was a 10% late fee if not payed by the 10th. So PAY YOUR BILLS ON TIME!!! Times are hard on everyone, not just "Piggott people". Get a life and stop griping. Maybe if you put your energy towards helping others the world would be a better place!
