My family has been considering moving to piggott so I stopped by topix to check it out and all I've read is its a horrible place filled with horrible people. How can one little town be filled with so much drama and trash talking?

Its due to not having anything to do in this town, no movie theater, no bowl alley, nothing so they feel the need to cause hate and drama. Also their lives are boring so if they cause drama for someone else it makes them feel good for some reason.

Just because we live in Piggott do not so easily assume everyone here is a horrible person or filled with hate. Do not clump us all together until you kow 2,000+ people.

It's just like any town - large or small. There are good and bad ppl. Although, anymore, it seems to me that the bad outnumber the good. I wouldn't have said that years ago, but the younger generations are not what the older generations were. But that's true of probably everywhere. I was talking to someone who has a business in hayti who said that in years past that they could extend credit to the older ppl who came in every first of the month and paid on bills religiously, but with the younger generation, they can no longer do that. Now with what age group that started, he didn't say. So many people's values have changed over the years that a gentleman's agreement (word & handshake) doesn't seem to exist any longer. And there is drug and alcohol abuse, teenage pregnancies, unwed mothers, divorces, cheating mates, thieves, liars, cheats, etc., but I think that if you go to any topix site of any small to medium size town that you will find it to be the same. I am disappointed in the behavior of the school teachers and staff that has been allowed. I just don't think that would have been tolerated several years ago. And it seems that some city and county officials leave much to be desired. But from the area, state, & national news, it is pervasive throughout many, if not all, communities. And there are very few public facilities for regular entertainment for adults and children. And few social organizations for either group. When I was growing up, there were many more activities for all, but due to changing times, that is no longer so. All 3 of the larger communities as well as all of the smaller communities as well as the county have lost population over the past several years and that doesn't appear to be reversing. Due to the lack of employment and high electric rates & lack of entertainment, I can't see any reason for anyone to want to move into Piggott. And, in retrospect, I think that many of us were fools for remaining here all of our lives. Unless you have close family ties or friends and an excellent paying job in or outside of Piggott, there is no draw to move here. And with the decrease in the number of job opportunities other than minimum wage jobs or government jobs & the increase in electric rates, it appears that people are moving outside of the city of Piggott in record numbers. Sometime ago, I was told that when the electric rates began to increase, that there were 2200 subscribers & at that time, it had decreased to 1800. It is probably down to 1700 now. There are vacant houses all over town. And for many years housing was at a premium here. It was almost impossible to get a rent house. Of course, now there are many more nicer apts. And the number of houses that have been condemned & removed have increased tremendously over the past decade to the point that it is almost unbelieveable IMO. And the number of new houses has almost come to a standstill. I can recall that in the 1960s & early 1970s that new houses were being built all the time. But the local economy was much different at that time too. All of this is JIMHO as of now as in many years past, I would have recommended that Piggott was as good or better than any community in which anyone would choose to live. Maybe, I'm just gettin cynical in my old age.

I moved here from Memphis over ten years ago to escape all the crime and for better schools. When you move away you will find the same drama, more drugs, and the same problems as here. What you wont find is a small community with a lot less crime, less drugs, better schools, and a safer environment to raise you children. We are also allowed to pray at school events and express our faith freely, which is oppressed severely.

I guess my point was everyone has something negative to say. No one mentioned that its a pretty little town. The yards all all well kept that I've seen. Everyone waves or stops to say hello. I had a whole conversation with the nicest lady over paper plates at the store the other day. Strangers act like I've known them forever. I like it here so far. its a quiet little town makes me feel like mayberry where the ladies are on the porch sipping tea. Everyone will point out the rain but hardely ever comment on the shining sun. Thanks to those who rolled out the welcome mat. Its good to know there's still some small town pride

I agree. I like it here. I don't have to worry about the riff raff cause they aren't the types of people I would be around. Looks like a safe place to watch my kids grow up.

Check Topix for almost any town you are thinking of moving to and you will find the same if not worse. If you are looking for a bigger town with more to do, I'm sure Topix is ten times worse for that town. Just a few miles down the road in a bigger town with more to do there are teenagers killing teenagers and committing suicide quite frequently here lately. I love this town but we moved from Cape Girardeau. Want drama and trash talk? Bigger cities are the place to be IMO.

Piggott can be a great place, if you want it to be. Its all in your outlook and staying away from drama seekers. Every town has drugs, adultery, and some sort of crooked politics. But Piggott also has some lifelong friends you can make that will have your back anytime you need them. Good luck!

Thanks! We've been here about 3 wks now and I havnt found anything I don't like about this place. I like the fact that I can walk almost any where in a town this size. Its nice not to take the car on a pretty day.

Just wait until you get your first electric bill! Rates are outrageous here, especially if your home is all electric! Other than that, Piggott isn't bad!
