This is one of those motels that needs to be inspected. I stayed at the motel about a year ago....room was clean..old...but clean.

Had to make a trip to Piggott about 3 weeks ago and we were not pleased. Dead bugs all over the floor, lights burned out in main area and bath. And the horrible smell of moth balls in the office was overpowering.

Is this the ONLY place to stay in Piggott??

there is a nice Bed & Breakfast downtown Piggott in the Old Bank building on Main Street. I cannot remember the name of it but they say it's nice & you could call the Piggott Chamber of Commerce for more info. I have heard that Open Roads had changed ownership, and I also heard that a drunk was in charge. So that explains why it's so nasty.

My family stayed there when my grandfather married his 4th wife in 2001 and it was really clean... but ever since that new couple has opened the place has gone to hell.... They barely take care of it... It's sad to see one of the few places in town to stay went to hell from someones poor lack of cleanliness...not to mention i heard they raised the prices on the motel... why pay almost 50 to 60 dollars to stay in a roach motel... the drunk needs to get off his ass and fix things or he will go out of business...

The name of the B&B on W. Main St. is the Down Town Inn. It is operated by George Forrest & his wife. He is the one who had the Open Roads Motel built & operated it for awhile. He operates "The Way It Was", also. Last that I heard was that the rates for the B&B were the same as for the Open Roads Motel. Somewhere between $60-$70 plus tax per day/night. So I think that I would rather stay at the Down Town Inn B&B.

I will definetly stay at the B&B next time. I had no idea the motel was so run down and covering odors with moth balls isn't going to help! The bugs were bad enough but the fact that the bathroom light had burned out and no one bothered to replace it just shows the lack of concern for customer satisfaction. That could have been a simple, inexpensive fix.

Is it true they have a jaccuzi room there? Did you hear anything about that?

They used to have one room with a jacuzzi, it was nice back in the day. It's sad the owners have let the only motel we have in town get so run down. The motel isn't that old. Just needs some tlc and new owners.

Yes, they do. At one time, it was the only one in about a 50-60 mile radius that did. It was actually built to be utilized as a bridal room/suite w/ complementary bottle of champagne. The unit closest to the highway was built first. The room with the jacuzzi & king size bed is on the street side at the back. It's the last room on the west side - the room on the SW corner. They had an open house when it was first built is the reason that I know. Later the second unit of rooms was built as he had so much business. It is sad that it has been let go down but that is what happens when a place changes hands so much from the ones who made the money on it in the beginning plus there are not the number of travelling salesman for this area that there were in years past. Technology has replaced many of them and chains have closed the doors to the small independents. It still looks good outside. A good powerwash job can clean white vinyl and make it look like new.
I doubt that the trim has ever been painted since the original pain job and I've noticed while at DG that mini-blinds are missing and/or broken in some rooms so that the curtains are exposed to the sunlight. It probably needs new bedding, linens, etc. plus paint and paper & carpet. But Mr. Forrest built a room for almost every need. There is at least one that is for the disabled with a shower that is wheelchair accessible and one with a kitchenette. It was a pretty neat place when he had the first unit of rooms built. I don't even see campers & RV's parked there anymore.
Of course, I haven't noticed them at Holland's anymore either.
It would be nice if someone who had the money and liked to refurbish/remodel could buy it and return it to it's original glory. Like I said, the first unit was not enough to accomodate all of the business is the reason that Mr. Forrest built the second unit of rooms.

It's probably older than you think. If I'm remembering correctly, it is and/or will be 18yo this year. So I'm certain that like you say it needs some TLC plus probably new linens, bedding, curtains, possibly new furniture, new carpet, paint, paper, and probably some repairs to the heat and air and the plumbing, etc., etc., etc.

Yeah its about 18 or 19 years old. I was at the open house as well. Very nice little motel and did real good business for several years.

What are they going to do with the oldest motel going out of Piggott toward Holcomb? There was a flea market for a short while, now nothing there again.

Thanks for the website to the Downtown B&B. I will stay there next time. I just don't think I can stay at Open Roads again and now with that robbery taking place I just don't think I would feel safe.

MY WIFE AND I STAYED IN THE DOWNTOWN B & B when Pat Neal was staying there and it was very nice. We also stayed in the Open Roads when it was in it's prime. It's a shame the motel has fallen on hard times. George and Lou worked hard to get the motel built and the old bank turned into yhe B&B. I grew up with George and Dana grew up with Lou. We're not spring chickens anymore so I hope someone restors the motel as Piggott needs it.

Not to mention new owners. The guy running the place offered me a job cleaning through the week and gave me a schedule knowing I had plans to go to Florida and then when I cancelled my plans and came into work he told me he decided he didn't need me and could do the work himself.

We stayed at Open Roads about a year ago and couldn't believe they charge $70 a night for that place. And the ones running it then weren't friendly at all.
