I love vacationing with my family in the Smokies. But the last three times we have been there we have either been the brunt of or witnessed extreme road rage. A local driver flipped me the bird when another vehicle cut him off. Another time I was cussed because I would not make a left hand turn on a red light. The people we meet there are friendly but each case it appears to be locals. Is it just me or is this becoming a problem?

It's everywhere. Everyone is in a hurry and show no respect for the other drivers. Common courtesy is fading and is unknown to young drivers unless their parents are along. Road rage, left lane tail draggers, distracted drivers with cell phones, and visibly unsafe vehicles are just something we have to live with. With tight budgets and high gas prices, law enforcement is not on the streets and roads as much as they should be to clean up the problems. Far too many times, when you have a confrontation with these drivers, it's not is right but who is left!

Well the reason it's the locals is because we are fed up with you flooding up our roads. You probably could turn left at the light some lights allow you to turn left if its green. I think that all the money they put into the main roads for the Tourist should be put into repaving some of our back roads. I also think they should make a road that goes from the interstate straight way to Pigeon Forge to keep all the traffic from clustering up. We have Veterans Blvd but need a road to connect it straight to the interstate. You tourist cut us locals off all the time. It's like your ride in the middle lane on the parkway and as soon as you see something you want to go look at you cut other people off trying to make it to the turnaround or to pull right off the road. Point is that us Locals can't stand you tourist anyways. Stay home and you don't ave to worry about us flipping you the bird or cussing you out.

Dear Visitor,
Road rage is nothing new anywhere. It is not anything exclusively here in the Smokies. Sorry you experienced that kind of rudeness here. Don't take it personally. It has happened to me to a few times whenever I have traveled somewhere where I'm not familiar with the roads too. Hope you'll come back to visit our area again.

If it weren't for the tourists, you would still be driving your mule team on gravel two lane roads and living off moonshine and cornbread. How many MAJOR industries are located there to support the town other than cabins, motels, restaurants, amusements, tee shirt and junk shops? Pull the tourists out of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg and you can have your peace and quiet.....DEAD quiet!

preach it brother. This town would die over night and there would be no money to fix any roads. They would have to pack up the family and move to another highly populated area where they could find jobs and afford to live. Out of towners fuel this city.

This post makes me feel....better? Someone tried to run me off the road multiple times recently after SHE cut me off so close there only was no accident due to my fast reactions. I honked, I guess that was bad. I'm from a VERY major city and have never experienced anything like this in my life. I was so scared I cried, that's how much she tried to ram into my car.

I remember one time when I was little. We had one of those old 88 model box oldsmobiles. Well where I'm from there is a bridge. I seen my dad hop out the car after some guy got out of his who was behind us. Dad through him off the bridge man it was great. All you heard was a grown man screaming like a little girl all the way down then heard a big splash. Oh there was a river under the bridge. I was like 7, Good Times.

That's a good ole boy red neck story but today daddy might pick on something he really csn't handle and wind up face down in the road. It ain't like the good ole days where people settled their differences bare handed. Now you better expect a gun.knife, mace, stun gun,or whatever either from the driver or passenger. It's best to avoid confrontation and stay alive. Showing your ass being macho isn't worth dying for.

If you are a visitor to this area, please disregard some of the good ole boy...redneck comments. There is no excuse for them and I apologize for them. They don't have enough sense to realize that they would not be able to make it without tourism which is our only industry. I am a local and also have problems with them but never honk or raise a hand because they are unpredictable and could be dangerous. The best is just to ignore them and go on. The world is turning into a dangerous place everywhere. Sorry for the rednecks.

What about the dumb ass tourist who pull into our lanes trying to make a cut off. When they don't realize they can turn around at one of the numerous turn arounds and go back to where they meant to turn off. Oh no lets cause an accident Ohio. I'd rather just Ohio people not be allowed here. If you've noticed it's always them causing wrecks and doing something wrong.
