Remember that Pigeon Forge does not operate a school system. All schools in Pigeon Forge belong to Sevier County. Liquor sales in Pigeon Forge will not specifically help schools in Pigeon Forge.

How many empty buildings does Pigeon Forge have not paying sales taxes or low property taxes? The cities cost are rising at every monthly meeting and someone has to pay for it! If businesses continue to relocate in Sevierville and Gatlinburg the property taxes on homes may rise where many residents can't afford to live in Pigeon Forge.

What's your solution for filling the vacant buildings and paying for the increased cost of reckless spending?

It looks like it may pass. I'm predicting Jess Davis will apply to serve alcohol at the Wood Grill.

This is untrue. Pigeon Forge does not operate a school system, but the law in the case of Pigeon Forge is completely clear: money the city of Pigeon Forge gets back from the liquor tax must be spent on schools inside the city. There is no option for the city to put that money in the general fund, and there is no option for it to go to other schools.
57-4-306 (3) Notwithstanding the provisions of subdivision (2), the fifty percent (50%) of the gross receipt taxes allocated to local political subdivisions by subdivision (2) and collected in a municipality which is a premier tourist resort shall be distributed to and expended by such municipality for schools in such municipality.
Pigeon Forge is a premier resort. Don't lie about the law. The money will specifically help schools in Pigeon Forge.

Great job Hotel/Motel Assoc! You whined enough to get it passed. Now your going to demand more from your Police to protect your properties when our TOURISTS get all liquored up and starts destroying rooms. Don't cry about how long it takes to get there. Remember, money is going to schools. Not extra people to control the effects LBTD has on its participants.

Name a Gatlinburg business that has been destroyed by drunk patrons. I don't believe anyone has left a Pigeon Forge restaurant over failure to get a mixed drink, but let the market determine which location serves drinks. If the restaurants that serve drinks follow past history as many others, some will go out of business. Too many business believe mixed drinks is leader over great food.

Work had me traveling over this great country for years. As one who enjoys great food, it's observations that restaurants who promote mixed drinks as their main draw seldom have good food. A restaurants with a small bar and large dining room usually has good food. If it looks like a bar and you have to ask for a menu, it better to eat from the vending machine.

Let the market determine who stays in business. I'll predict that locations depend on drinks alone will close. Restaurants that focus on great food with drinks available with the meal will grow. Pigeon Forge needs some better restaurants. Many look great, but the food is low quality.

Don't be ignorant. The city leaders are not going to let the media print what law enforcement officers actually get called to do in their cities. Tourists would run if they saw what crimes ocurr and are not brought out in the public. Ask any police officer what is the contributing factor in 75% of calls they go on at motels. Alcohol! Why do you think we can no longer hear them on the police scanners? They don't want bad publicity or the bad guys, which we have, to hear them. Now half the motels in pigeon forge have perminent residents. Scum ridden, drug infested motels where our visitors stay next door to someone in town to play and have to be subjected to that. Now add liquor they can access by walking a block or two. We, the residents are the clowns and this area is one big circus.

Well you sure sound like a clown, and Pigeon Forge is a circus. Why is that Pigeon Forge is having such a problem with alcohol, scumbags, and drugs in the motels? The nearest liquor store is in Gatlinburg along with several businesses serving alcohol. If alcohol was such a problem, why is it that Gatlinburg is not having a problem?

Either way, people will bring it in if they can't buy it local. The difference is where the tax money is spent and collected. Many people like myself just bring minatures in when we eat and no one has ever said anything about it.

The town needs to levy a 50% tax on the " show weekend surcharges" the motels charge during car shows. The ratholes should be the same price regardless of what's in town. It's robbery without the gun and mask!
