Any citizen could open a business on Airport Road. So, like, where were you? Waiting for a bailout? The reason immigrants take these jobs is citizens won't get off their backsides.

And this is news, why, exactly? Surely there was SOMETHING going on in SF that needed covering.

So, what do other strip mall owners have to do to get their properties featured in the New Mexican for free?

Local business good! These businesses sound more wholesome than that tumor some call Wall mart. I`ll never go to Burque again to buy things. What else could we need that Santa Fe doesn`t offer?

Another thing, stop buying stuff over the internet, lest it be a local firm.

Us Santa Feans best mean business, otherwise business will eat us alive.

We need to build our own cars in Santa Fe.
We also need to dig up that landfill and reuse it.
Distill all organic waste. City trucks love drinking alcohol.
We also need more live stock within the city limits. We`re going to need beasts of burden. Not to mention horses, pigs, goats, poultry of all kinds.
You`ll have to adopt all these ancient solutions. Why wait?

Interesting that Henry closed down the comments on the two articles yesterday only to open this one up so the nastiness can continue. Just wait 'til MJ gets here. She'll start slammin' it for sure.

What's with the New Mexican shining the spotlight on these "immigrants" on the front page two days in a row?

Either they're inviting more to move here or they're trying to help ICE. Gee, what could their motive be?

Its obvious that the NM is trying to boost business at this place by spreading is benefits... Maybe they gave a donation to the NM?

I was wondering the same thing. I feel like I'm reading an immigration brochure.

Once again biggoted, racist fools prevail here. It's interesting to note the majority, if not all of these bigots, were born and raised in Sanata Fe -- speaks well for the school system and the parents involved --- NOT. I, for one, will avoid doing business with those advocating bigotry and racism -- if against working folks or against those of another culture --my $$ will go to those advocating compassion and equality.

Why aren't we hearing anything on the "mexicanization" of Santa Fe from the loudmouths who wail incessantly about "what is happening to our beautiful little city?" Evidently, turning the southside into an ghetto for illegals doesn't offend the sensibilities of those who get teary-eyed talking about the way Santa Fe "used to be." Why not?

Yeah, right. Some of these posts have made me so mad I'm having a hard time concentrating at work. Have you all forgotten that the USA is a nation of immigrants? Just how many---or how few---generations are you all removed from being an immigrant yourself? It's 7 for me, ancestors from England and Germany in early 19th century.
We're all descended from people who came here to escape various privations (war, poverty, overcrowding, religious persecution, etc) and start over, as are the folks minding the store(s) in this article. Even the Native Americans are immigrants, migrations from Asia beginning some time after 16.5K years ago. All the rest of us are johnny-come-latelys. I might add that every incoming ethnic group has been given a rough time by those who were already here, the Irish and the Germans in the 19th century being prominent examples, not to mention what the Native Americans have been subjected to.

So I suppose all this meanness is just history repeating itself, but that doesn't justify it, even though it seems to be human nature. Attitudes like that have a way of turning around and coming back at you, somehow, sometime.

And somebody mentioned illegal immigrants. Use your head---if any of our Zia Center folks were here illegally, do you think they'd publicize their whereabouts and activities on a front page?

Meanwhile, I think I'll stop by the bakery when I get there in October.

As a native, I will take a Texan buying a million dollar house on the east side any day over these criminals. And that is what they are, criminals. Most of them have entered our country illegally and find Santa Fe perfect for them because we don't ask or enforce immigration AND we have the ridiculous minimum wage that is an added incentive to come here. For anyone that is not just a little peeved about this immigration issue, you must not have kids in public schools where almost half do not speak english.

The USA is a nation of, for the most part, LEGAL IMMIGRANTS. Stay in KC Nancy where you don't have to live with this everyday....otherwise you might just join the majority of this town who have had enough of it.

I have no problem with immigrants. I am the son of an immigrant. LEGAL immigrants. For those of us who's forefathers went through Ellis Island or any other legal arrival for that matter, the circumstances were just as lean and mean as immigrants face currently. The current trend to accept illegals and somehow protect them is a slap in the face to anyone who has gone the legit route.

Legal immigrants want to be here to contribute. Illegals want to use the USA's sympathetic system to manipulate. Legal immigrants often know more and understand more about the USA than our own mindless kids.

Learn English, pay taxes and contribute.

Thanks just the same, Bad Points, but it's everywhere. We have to live with plenty of it here. KC has a huge barrio, with a lot of its people housing their friends and relatives illegally. And in the hospital where I work, we have a steady flow of dialysis-dependent patients who are illegal immigrants and therefore can't get Medicaid, so they have to be admitted to the hospital as inpatients 3 times a week at $1000+ a pop, and we have to write most of it off.

Again, who says the Zia Center folks are here illegally? And why would an illegal make it so obvious by getting into a front-page story?

Ok valid point! What`s your number? A million new immigrants a year? 2 mil a year? 5 mil a year? 10 mill a year? With double digit unemployment, how many more idle workers would create your utopia? 50 Mil a year? See how empty your position is.
We need strict limitations on immigration, and stiff fines for employers who hire illegals. But still you would rather be over run by millions of hungry idle workers who carry exotic viruses.
Sounds like your Utopian vision is total deprivation for all.
