Only an LBJ landslide would cause the Ds to win a Suburban Columbus metro area seat. Delaware County OH is the second most R county in the state.
In Central Ohio, one county votes D, Frankin.
If you want to see where the map is really gerrymanderd, you look at Northeast Ohio. Without creative map drawing, Joyce and Renacci wouldn't be in Congress in the state's most socialist area.
Now it may seem unethical, but I really enjoy not having Betty "Clunkers" Sutton "representing" me, as Sherrod Brown did when he was in Congress under the 1990 D drawn map.
I see it as fair payback for the greatest gerrymandering in US History, the Immigration Act of 1965
And Franklin doesn't ALWAYS vote solid Democrat.

Your'e right about Northeast Ohio, though. They did Dennis Kucinich out of a seat altogether, another strike against thuggish Ohio Republicans.

The mentally incompetent should not be allowed to serve in Congress.

Franklin voted only for Portman in 2010, Portman was running against a block of wood.

They voted D the rest of the way.

Kucinich was one of the best people in Congress. An objective observer, or one not obsessed with partisanship, would see that. He took sides against both parties at one time or another, and put the country's interests first.

Portman against a block of wood...hard to pick that race when the candidates were so much alike...:)

Name one significant piece of legislation he got passed.

That man was a Hollywood tool living off of ethnic loyalty.

By your standards, Bachmann is one of the best people in Congress.

Portman's tenure at the OMB, outranks Fisher's "jobs, what jobs" when he was Preacher Ted's Lt Gov.

The only D in this state I consider competent, is Cordray.

Fisher was one of the worst D candidates in this state, in the past decade, only Hagan and Dann were worse.

But please nominate another white man in 2014, I'm thinking that if Kasich wins big, he'll be in the White House next.

K-Sux in the WHITE HOUSE???

LOL...thanks for the laugh of the day.

If Ohio had a recall law, he wouldn't even be in the STATE House!:)

Preacher Ted was offered the chance to be VP, a swing state governor always has a shot at the presidency if they are even marginally competent. Kasich has the unemployment rate in Ohio 1.1 points lower than the national average.

How are IL, CA and NY doing?

Michigan does have a recall law, and Rick Snyder is still in office, Walker was recalled and beat it. I don't think Ohio is more socialist than those two states.

Ted Strickland was a far better governor than failed union-buster K-Sux. The current bozo of course has had little or nothing to do with our recovery, but trumpets his 'achievements' in the same dishonest way he blamed Strickland for the state deficit caused by the recession.

No surprise a rightie can't stay on topic and doesn't know what 'socialism' is....:)

If the leftist policies are working so well, explain why Illinois and New York are doing worse than Ohio. There has been uninterrupted D control.

The left prefers the mixed model of Europe for the economy, that's socialism, despite it being called a variety of names "democratic socialism/social democracy". The highest concentration of left wing voters in Ohio is in Northeast Ohio.

'Gosh, Mr. Political Science, explain to me why every state is exactly the same and the same policies should work the same way in every one of them all the time!'

LOL

I really don't care what you call "socialism," it's been obvious for a long time that it's just an insult the righties use to try to control political discussions. No relationship with reality at all.

The GOP has 30 Governors and 24 trifectas. The Ds have 20 Governors.

We get to see the policies of each side enacted and then see who does better.

I think that a state can be reasonably compared to states neighboring it and states of the same population size.

Ohio has 18 electoral votes, Illinois has 20

They are close in population.

IL has had three straight terms of D governors, and about as much time with a D Majority in the state legislature.

Ohio has had mixed control, but the Ds have not held a trifecta.

Now their unemployment rate is far worse than ours, and the credit rating is headed down.

Obama is from Illinois.

----------

The left called Bush a fascist, and frets about "theocracy"...

They're not at all alike, which is what I'm saying to you. You want to 'prove' that the 'socialist left' is just 'wrong' about their governance, social programs, spending etc. You don't care about facts, just ideology.

Ohio has been a Republican state for years, for one thing you've got wrong. When was the last time the Dems dominated the state legislature there? How many Republican governors have they had?

Even within one party, there a re good leaders and bad leaders, for that matter. That's why I'm not a partisan ideologue, it's just a way to make yourself more stupid.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_party_...

Last D trifecta in 1984. But the Ds controlled the House until 1994, and Vern Riffe was a powerful figure.

Ohio has been a swing state in the modern era.

GOP success at the state level, is almost entirely to do with the personal popularity of George Voinovich.(My grandmother is a straight D voter since the 40s, Voinovich is the only R she has ever supported)

If you look at the diagram, only two politicans since 1990 have won by themselves, Lee Fisher and Mary Taylor. The voters have switched between parties, and typically send the whole side in.

Sorry Professor, but you are no more independent than I am, and I'm considered one of the most partisan on here. You criticize your side from the left, as I do my side from the right.

-------

The facts largely agree with me that tax-and-spend (socialism)is not a successful governing program. Illinois, California, New York, and even the Canadian province of Ontario are good examples.

Now I'm not all blinded to think that the Rs deliver the best governance.

I'll give you a successful blue state, Washington, it doesn't have a state income tax. Plenty of problems for sure, but they added a seat in Congress last Census.

Since 2001, it has outperformed its blue state neighbor Oregon.
