The problem with Pickerington is that it's full of Pickeringtonians. That is to say, Hillbillies. If you live there, that's you. It's a DUMP! Wow. What a dump. I have friends who live there and I hate to visit. The roads are jammed with beat-up $hitboxes. Cigarette smoke pours from every open window. Teens crash their parents leased cars at every intersection. Get out of Picktown and move to Arlington. That's where the civilized folks live. And there won't a Big Lot's any time soon.

Oh, and see what the school rating is next year. What with the new forty-five minute school day and all.

Really? Because I followed a Lambo Murcielago into town off I-70 a couple weeks ago, and see Mercedes, Lexus, CTS-V Caddys, Z06 vettes, new Camaros, Mustangs, and Challengers, and a nice array of vintage musclecars, etc. on 256 and around town almost every day. I think you need to get out more.

Picktown is a very cool place to live, and I've been here over 20 years.

Big Lots will go away once the newness wears off and folks see it for what it really is. A low paying, low tax base store that shouldn't be in our town. And as for our schools, they are doing just fine.

Nice job PLSD, but we still have some work to do. Our elementary school scores need to come up a bit. Lets see some additional improvement this year.

I find it amazing that the "pro-levy" group never ever sees the waste and will defend the PLSD to the end...

In the last 5 or so years, Pickerington has experienced a population boon which made our community much more diverse. With that increased diversity came issues our district has not experienced in as broad a range as before. Speak with most students within our district schools (elementary, middle, junior high, and high schools) and they will tell you who allot of the students disrespecting teachers and other students, and fighting are. The influx of African American students into our district within the last 5 years has caused a spike in student related problems in all our schools from an increase in disrespecting teachers and other students to fighting and an increase in theft of student’ s property. Not a racist statement. Just a fact. And at the same time teachers will tell you these student’ s parents are the ones coming in yelling at them and telling them they are picking on their kids.
Now go to www.greatschools.org . Look up our district. Individual schools within the district are rated by their overall test scores. Look at a particular school and its rating score. Now click on that score and go into the breakdown and see the racial breakdown of testing scores. The same students that are causing a large part of the recent spike in disciplinary issues are also causing our district to slide down in its quality rating. Pickerington Central, for example, has an overall rating of 6. Its Caucasian studentsâ€&#8482 ; rating is up at an 8. African American studentsâ€&#8482 ; rating is at a 3, while the Hispanic studentsâ€&#8482 ; rating is at a 2. Both severely bring down the school’s overall rating. Diley Middle school, same thing. Caucasian test rating is at a 9, while African American rating is at a 4. The Pickerington school district schools with higher African American and Hispanic student populations have the lower overall ratings, and ultimately bring down the districtâ€&#8482 ;s overall rating. Facts are facts. Some of these recent Pickerington residents need to address these facts, better teach their children respect, discipline, and the advantages of a quality education, and become a part of increasing the districtâ€&#8482 ;s overall quality rating. If a minimum education is all they want for their children then Pickerington may not be the right community for them.
Looks like they need to import some indians chinks and jews to get the averages up.

I agree completely with fiscal responsibility, and PLSD has shown that overall. They just combined some positions in the athletic dept. and saved $200,000 in the process. I would definitely call that fiscally responsible.
And as for taxes. They are a necessary evil. Especially in a bedroom community such as Pickerington. Those of us that have lived here for a long period of time know that and accept it as part of living here. Without them our community would not be as strong as it is today. It is part of our responsibility as Pickerington residents.
To make a statement that Big Lots is GOOD for our community shows how out of touch with this community you really are. Either that or you are a new resident who knows nothing about what this community is about. We are about quality, and Big Lots IS NOT quality.
Right, what you got for your money is that when the economy rebounds, like it is bound to, our community will rebound faster than those that cut, cut, cut, down to nothing. Our community will again be where people will be looking to move because we held strong through the rough times and came out much stronger because of it. If you want cheap taxes, Pickerington just is not the town for you.
More needs to be done by the district/athletics to become fiscally responsible. I know of at least 3 times in the last two weeks where a bus was requested for the north boys golf (maybe 10-12 boys) to take them to their meet. Drivers showed up an boys did not. Coach decided to drive them in a school van and didn't cancel the bus and driver. Thus they paid at least $80 for the bus and then for fuel for the van on top of that. Someone needs to get their act together. On at least e time maybe an accident but at 3 times is just irresponsible and not fiscally responsible. New levy will be sooner rather than later with this type of unaccountability going on.
BTW it's great to see the former Big Bear strip mall occupied. Have you noticed all the other businesses that are in there now because Big Lots came to P-Town?
