I totally agree. The music was poorly chosen (expect for the Armed Forces medley and the occasional partriotic song), and the presentation was even worse. It all started with the horrendous singing of the National Anthem, which was a disgrace. Whatever happened to respect and decorum? Whatever happened to the idea that the Anthem could be sung by the assembled masses, rather than the stylizing by a self-serving performer who is promoting herself/himself rather than paying honor to the country and the flag. After alkl, remember that the Anthem is OUR song, not HER song. You would think that anyone who is schooled in music and is associated with either the radio or TV station would be able to have some substantive input to the process, and would be able to advise and suggest a more appropriate programming.

The fireworks were great, but the music SUCKED! Who was the broad they dubbed in with Ray Charles? And what was up with that "africanized" Hang on Sloopy?

The dumbing down of America continues...

Screw that, where are the arrest reports? 400,000 people in hot, sticky, nasty-aired weather means tempers are going to flare and the stupid index goes up.

I agree 10000%. Why these singers desecrate our National Anthem is beyond me. I can barely stand to listen to them sing this anthem. It is a difficult song to sing, at best, but why can't the "vocalists" sing it as it is written and have the entire audience sing also. I believe the music should have been ALL patriotic, too. Guess we are in the minority.

I want to hear about the fight that was so big that the police ended up pepper spraying the crowd to break it up. There were parents with small children in that crowd.

People that attended have told that it was crazy violent from the time that they got there until they left.

Where is all the reporting on those incidents?

Like the song says...only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the noonday sun...and plenty were out...probably no Englishmen though.

The music sucked because WNCI sucks. I personally avoid the thug heavy ghetto fabulous crowd because I don't feel like putting my life or my families life in danger. Columbus has went so far downhill that I'm seriously considering moving away from the crime capital of Ohio.

It's almost like there is a conspiracy of silence within the Columbus media.

I don't know how some folks can take a great, civic event like RW&B and twist it into something negative. I wasn't thrilled with some of the the music either, but I'm 61 years old, and I know that it was aimed at a younger audience. As it should be. "Something for everyone" seems like the logical way to go - especially at an event celebrating our independence. With a big chunk of the rest of the world rioting in the streets, the sheer spectacle of a half million people coming together peacefully to honor America far outweighs any minor complaints.

The only conspiracy is in your head. With that many people, there are bound to be a few incidents caused by the idiots and malcontents among us. That's why the police are there. To keep the peace. And they did their job. I haven't seen or heard of any injuries or deaths in or around RW&B - and I'm damn sure we'd have read about them this morning if they'd actually happened (as we have in the past, by the way). If some bystanders - including children - were (ALLEGEDLY) exposed to pepper spray, that's unfortunate. But that's not the cops fault - or the city's fault. The blame lies solely with the idiots and malcontents among us. There are plenty of real and worrisome
"conspiracies" out there, but not behind every rock.

Oh my stars. I sure hope the Columbus Freefire Zone has not been extended from the ghettos to Mayor Munkey Manhood's beloved downtown.

I'm 61 as well and I thought the music was great! We were right behind the WNCI area and could hear the wonderful, modern music quite well, had a comfortable, uncrowded place to sit, friendly people all around us, and no problems whatsoever. We had no difficulty walking back to our bus stop, catching it, and were back to our car in exactly 1 hour thanks to COTA.

The weather was wonderful and the event spectacular. For all you party-poopers who didn't like the music, the weather, the crowds, etc., may I offer you a piece of advice? Do yourselves and the rest of us a favor and stay home next year!

Oh why yes...The word Africanized should never be use when in polite society. Afrocentric Amalgamation has a far better ring to it. However, the gentleman's intent and the end result of either term remains the same.

Really disappointed that Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA" was not included in the music. Wondering if it was intentional.
