Pickerington Schools likely wants this charter school for two reasons 1) move kids that perform poorly on the Ohio Graduation test out of Pickerington Local School district to the new district (charter school) in order to make Adequate Yearly Progress on the district report card 2) PLSD keeps the property tax and school income tax proceeds and building funds allocated to these students even though Pickerington School District is no longer educating these students. Yes, that is right, the charter schools can educate students just using the state portion of funding. No surprise since private school tuition is half of what PLSD spends each year per student. Pickerington Local Schools did not make Adequate Yearly Progress on their 2009-2010 report card.

This is insane thinking at a time when the district is already crying help from all the taxpayers in this community.
Somehow common sense has to surface..whether it be the board of education or the superintendent. Why would they even entertain the thought of a charter school at all? Perhaps if the teachers kept descipline in the classes and the parents were doing the same at home we would not have so many "at risk" students.
We cannot continue to throw money after money each time the district yells help. Tighten the spending like we do at home. If you don't have the money to run the schools that are already in use, why in the world would even think of taking on more?
We even askj parents to suppy chalk, dry erasers, etc and in the past have had the nerve to ask parents to donate gift cards or food for breakfast once a month for teachers when they have their morning meeting.
Of course I should all support the NEXT levy...that will be the day.
