You think Eastland Vocational School is where these types of students attended school? Are you brain dead? My daughter chose to attend the vocational school to get a jump start on a career in Nursing. She was an honors student at Pickerington and continued to be an honors student at the Vocational School. Now do I agree with a charter school? No. I have very good friends that lost their jobs as teachers when Pick made these cuts. But for you to say a vocational school is a school for only kids who can't hack a regular school is very sad and you should be smacked.
Exactly right. This charter will remove unmotivated kids that choose neither to go to college nor career center. Eastland isn't vocational education that many remember. It's actually quite cutting edge.

And for the two "means" and one "racy," I don't care. I don't want my daughter around the dregs of society. I'm not alone. Deal with it.

You do realize you sound like an idiot. Blaming parents? Who designed the curriculum? Who decided the methodology for 'teaching'? Who claims to be the professionals? Who claims to be the people 'qualified' and 'certified' to teach? Who made compulsory attendance laws? Who complains every single time someone comes up with a different model to compete with your precious statist system? Who throws good money after bad, year in and year out? Who sticks guns to parents heads and demands money for their crappy failing public 'system'? Hmmm? Who designed your precious statist school system? Do you even know?
Where do you get off accusing me of smoking crack? You don't know the first thing about me you loud mouthed piece of crap. You're the lemming. You're nothing but a lookee-loo statist. You're the one who's spouting the regurgitated nonsense. You don't know what news I listen too and you don't know the first thing about my political views. You're nothing but a flamer. I think quite well for myself. I notice you're the one who is using the 'rush' nomenclature. Is that supposed to make you funny, ironic, or just stupid? I'll bet I can guess. By the way, I am not a republican. I'll bet you're a 'social democrat', which would make you an ignoramus. Oh and before I forget- kiss my sphincter opening.

Happy now?

We have Pickerington public school students going to school in trailers so that these "kids" (some of whom are ADULTS) can use our facilities???? REALLY????
I have never voted against a school levy, EVER. I will be voting NO for additional monies if this charter school for drop-outs and delinquents is housed in our facility and my tax dollars are paying for this, while we still have legitimate students of tax-paying familes attending classes in TRAILERS in our school district.
My understanding is that the trailers are temporary until the upgrading and expanding of classrooms in the affected schools is completed, then the trailers will go away.
But I agree with those that believe this is extremely poor timing for this to take place when the district is complaining about a lack of funds, but evidently have enough to loan out. Hmmmm.......

There's already a school for these types of students and its called:
Eastland Vocational School,
of which I pay taxes to.
Pickerington's going to need a huge school levy on the ballot in Nov.
Good post.

I for 1 will vote no on the next school levy in Picktown. I have lived here for 20 years and always voted for the schools' levy. Being unemployed and back in school to re-train for a new future, I value my city's resources and will not support a school system that has wasted millions of $ on these palace-like high schools.

Where is the Dispatch or other news outlets reporting on this? Given all that is going in in the PLSD I would think this information would be worth of more in depth investigation.

While I understand the general concept here, the timing for this type of project could not be worse. I can't believe the board thinks now is a good time to roll this out. They are completely tone deaf - "so they will not have to intermingle..."

Where are all the details? When was this discussed and planned? Are records related to PCS available to the public?

spending is what pickerington likes to do when we have no money. isnt it scary having legal adults in the same building as 14 year olds ? wow. i just cant believe this, pickerington is going to go downhill. and then they complain why arent the grades going up? well you layed off all the good teachers and dismissed classes that kids actually want a career in. highschool is to prepare kids for college and the real world. you are juat taking things away... what are the board members thinking?! they are so full of it. good grief

Maybe these kids need help, but what about the third of college bound seniors that have to take remedial English at college because they are so far behind? We don't have enough money according to the board (i.e. levy) yet they can loan to a new school? How about making sure that the ones in our schools know what they need to know before going off to college. Vote No to giving more money to the board to squander. Show us YOU care about the kids. Spend what we have given you wisely.

For your information, not every child that attends Eastland Vocational is a "problem" student. I am a college educated individual, with no "issues" that attended Eastland. I chose to go there because of the opportunities available. A vocational school is not necessarily intended for students with behavioral issues. Think before you speak.

By not giving supplemental contracts to the music teachers for doing the salary based jobs they were already hired to do. That would be spending our money wisely....glad to see you finally agree!

What cracks me up is that "pick mama" you think posting with different names from the same place will make everyone think their are tons of people who support you....lol..... Trust me after seeing the numbers I took the time to research and according to the band website you have 6 directors. How much money does each one of these directors receive? I bet the band taps out that $55,000 you do NOT help out my sport in any way!!! As a matter of fact we probably cover your costs with your overspending band director. Oh yeah and after a conversation I had...how come North can get top scores without props and yet Central continues to purchase over priced props for their show? Hmmmmm might want to find out how that could save you even more funds. And while I was on your website I also discovered your boosters has lost its tax exempt status....hmmm DO NOT come knocking on my door for tag day, cause you won't be getting any money from me!!!!! http://pickeringtoncentralbandboosters.com/no ...

and way to be honest and up front with sponsors hope this doesn't ruin it for the rest of us!

Great! So the Government(HUD)sets up shop in Pickerington sending the undesirables (at risk) students there. Now Pickerington has to teach them and the Government is going to LOAN them part of the money to do it. How nice of them.

The "win-win" agreement between Pickerington and Columbus was a real loss for Picktown. Living in Columbus (like on Tussing Road) should mean attending Columbus. The massive apartment complexes there are problematic for the schools and the community at large.

The BOE believes the spend, spend, spend, and then ask for another tax hike mentality. PLSD needs to prioritize and be frugal, frugal, frugal with the money they receive. Giving all the administrators more money,(including Dr. Mantia who is already getting a 21K raise from the district she dropped us for. "MEMO to the BOE SHE QUIT you don't give a raise to someone who is leaving". Their reasoning is they haven't had a raise in 3 years and also LOANING MONEY for a new school, yet asking for another levy to be passed is contradictory. We either have the money to spend or we don't. So which is it? The actions of the BOE are showing we have money to throw around. Vote NO until they have proven that they are fiscally responsible.

I too am voting no on the levy, and this just adds fuel to the fire.I agree that our extra taxes will be going to kids whose parents don't care about their schooling and leave it up to the teachers, etc.I don't agree with housing 16-21 yr olds in the same school as 14-18 yr olds, something wrong with that picture. My daughter is going to be in 8th grade at Lakeview, but if this Charter School for delinquents and drop outs are still there next year, might be moving elsewhere.I agree get new board members that truly care about the kids education and not where their next raise is due!!
