Why does every place need a light?

They seem to be adding lights all over the place. There's that one they added a little while ago in Limerick, on Ridge Pike right by the Brewster's.
What a crappy way to slow down traffic on Ridge. And for what? To encourage more people to use that little side street. I saw some cars using that road before the light, but the use of that side road has definitely increased since the light. Just slowing traffic down and not needed.

AROD - Multiple fatalities have occurred at this intersection. Blinking light was fine while araea was mostly rural, but population of the township is growing rapidly.

Here's a community discussion about the most recent fatality:

I have an idea if that intersection is so bad go down Longford into Mont Clare and you will come out at the light at Produce Junction. If you are turning right turn at that road that brings you out at the top of the hill. Yes that is a bad intersection but the people that have died their have died because of their on stupidity. There have been several accidents that occurred there that the cause was reckless driving. Also the most recent death was the first one in many many years. According to Penn Dot Specs they won't install a light unless township feels that there is a need. Yes the township feels that there is a need but a better solution with adding the light would be to some how realign that intersection and make it more of a "T" intersection.

John,
Thanks for posting a link to your website. I looked at the comments, diagram and picture of that intersection on your website. What I wonder is would light there have avoided the last two accidents that occurred there? Based on the diagram and picture, it looked like somebody went almost straight ahead off of Egypt road and hit that wall. Were they one party accidents, or were there two cars involved in those accidents? If they were one car accidents, I don't see how a light would stop somebody from hitting that wall? Were the drivers DUI, and did these accidents happen at night?

I grew up in Mont Clare, that intersection has always been dangerous, I've seen a car into one of the house some years back, I pitty the guy who is always replacing his front steps, there's been a few cases of the power going out & non-locals come down egypt rd & with no warning light BANG straight across 29 into the ditch. On the other hand its a good test for the drunks leaving Alex's if they make the turn they figure they're ok if not the man will give them a place to stay for the night & the freaking traffic back ups are horrible too.
Either way you shake it too much traffic & an intersection that is not designed for it..
