Maybe you have trouble reading but as I read the article it is clearly printed "Long Islanders voted for Barack Obama for president by nearly 2-1".No where does it mention electorial votes.

I think the writer was referring to the exit polls, not to the actual counts. Exit polls aren't terribly accurate, but they're better than nothing (and in the case of Long Island, 2-to-1 for a Democrat is astonishing).
