It's just a game, why do fans who support their local college teams take it to such inhumane levels? I realize that the word fans derives from fanatic but fans can fanatically support a team without this type of callous behavior. My attitude would have been leave the guy alone, his team just got shut-out by Alabama, have some GD class, freaking classless rednecks in true form.

When you look at group behavior and how people act differently in a group, than they usually would when alone, it is amazing. The influence of group affiliation is related to social identity, or maybe their behavior was so insensitive because these people lack social identity and this reenforces some distorted sense of collective value within the community. You never know just how you are going to act in a group setting. I hope that I would never act like this and allow any group affiliation to influence my better judgement, just about every person in that video was precipitating Downing's actions, they should all do a little soul searching.

I have to agree for the most part about the group thing and I'll toss in another as well.
The Media.
I honestly had never even heard of the act of ... Not even going to say the word ..(Yeah, I will, Tea Bagging) Until Anderson Cooper (Yale University) of CNN, famous media personality and Son I do believe of Gloria Vanderbilt of the Super duper Ultra Rich Vanderbilt family who's Patriarch Cornelius Vanderbilt provided Vanderbilt its initial $1 million endowment despite having never been to the South. Something about healing wounds over the Civil War if I remember correct,
used the term (Cooper did)to describe the conservative group, The Tea Party, to make the group appear uncool or nasty in some way, I assume to uncouth liberal idiots and glamorize the act of dunking balls into peoples mouths to ridicule them.
Apparently as cool as Cooper suggested teabagging to be, it just really isn't the case at all.
Nobody like teabagging at all!
What a shocker huh?

Yup. Gotta give some blame to Cooper and the liberal media for at least making the idea of dunking balls into an unknowing victims mouth mainstream.
I doubt the idea would have ever even crossed the mind of an obviously straight white redneck had it not been for the coolness of the act, as portrayed by Cooper, to ridicule someone in such a way.
Such a damn shame really/.
