I heard that they had to call Kimper to bring a ladder truck to help. Does anyone know what is on fire?

yes they had to call kimper to bring there ladder truck to reach over the coal pile to get to the fire, if the people in the phelps area would pay there fire fee then they could buy there own ladder truck they cost a lot of money, and when you have people like hilman dotson putting the dept on the bottom of the list to get there coal money from the state that makes it even harder to buy what they need to keep them going with better equipment. comment on this if you want to because, you are more than likely one of those not paying you fire dues.

I got money for a ladder truck butI thought it was more appropriate to buy a 60 inch tv and a new card table for the court house.Do you know how boring it gets in this court house every day.I wish I knew who you were, you'd never get another load of gravel.

You just can't satisfy these people.I gave them gravel, gave them $20 to vote for me,took care of their traffic tickets, got a lot of them out of jail, and they still whine. All this after me and Jacky Darrell got them a new school.I,m a heading for Tenn as soon as I milk this county out of a couple more million.

Yes,I always pay my fire dues. But the people of Va.does not pay you and you all work a 4 wheeler accident in there state the other night when you went under the train trussel.Wonder what they would say knowing you were on there turf and knew it and didn't notify them.Another thing the fire dept. needs to learn how and when to block the road.Instead of standing around.Go buy you some insoles with my fire dues for those tired feet, even thou its not manatory for me to pay them.

thats the good thing about the phelps firemen they don't care where you live if they get a call to go they do so if you don' want to pay the fire dues then don't and quit complaining about them blocking the road if theres a wreck do you expect them to let traffic run over them just so your sorry ass can go thru and as far as them working a wreck in Va. just thank them for doing whats right trying to help someone regardless what state there in these guys will go anywhere they are called to go thanks members of the Phelps fire dept for thinking of others good job and keep up the good work and don't worry about what some sorry ass says about you.

Do you think they should just set by phone waiting on your house to catch on fire or you to have accident cause you paid your dues??

I tell you what's sad is that the fire people here are like the gestapo. We used to have volunteer out in the country and they were pretty good people. Then they got legit and started demanding more and more money. I mean TONS OF MONEY. Some of them live in North Carolina and still work full time here. How's that work out? Sweet deal, huh? Then if you or your family mentions why are they working at one station in another county while drawing disability from a job they claim the can no longer do (same job different fire house)in their original county they threaten you. They say,
"We'll just drive by your house if it catches on fire." I don't belive that. I believe they'll just drive slower to get there. So I appreciate a volunteer. I still want them to be good, decent, respectable people. End of story. And not try to make others feel bad cause they don't have the same firetruck. Why isn't the cola co. buying them one then? Or does that go back to coal money from the state? How much are the coal company's fire dues?

Maybe they just need to add the fire dues in with our taxes then that why they will get the money.Volunteer firefighters some of them have jobs and they still help the community. Why don't some of these coal company's donate some money for equipment and trucks?Don't they get some kind of money from the state for things they need like Wva does?

There ya go ... talking about adding a tax. HERE the firemen and police EAT fifty percent of the tax budget and always want raises to the point they are all driving BMWs, high-end Jeeps, Humvees and other brand new expensive cars. Don't do it. Keep it volunteer.

first off you don't know what the hell your talking about it will always be volunteer at phelps but you dam sure don't see any of the phelps firemen driving any new vehicle some of them drive ones in the early 80's-or early 90's look at the fire chiefs vehicle it dam sure is not new the ones that are driving newer cars or truck have a job.I have a question for your stupid ass is there any police in the phelps area hell no. you need to get you facts straight before you run your mouth about the fire dept, i am a volunteer fireman in the county. maybe a tax is the only way that people like you would pay a fire fee uumm.

oh yell they get about 6-8 thousand dollars from the state, the fire that phelps had sunday morning that likely cost the dept 5.000.00 dollars with all the equipment and foam that they had to use. they were having a drivers training class when they got that call so that class had to be rescheduled oh and by the way these men/women have to maintain 20 hours each year just to be a fireman/woman could you do it

I don't know where you can get off calling the pike county firefighters gestapo, oh well maybe they didnt let you get through at a car wreck or had there hose in the road and wouldn't let you run over it {that piece of hose cost $1.50 per foot that is the reason they want let you run over there hose I don't belive the men at the phelps fire station wants to make anyone feel bad because one dept has something that they don't again if ever one in the phelps fire district payed ther dues they would have enough to but some of the equipmet that they don't have that is enough said about that. so instead of down gradding the fire dept you show the that you care for them, have you ever thanked them for the job they do even if you thing its a poor job maybe some of the people that get on here, needs to do ther job for a wl/mo.

if you don't like paying the fire dues then don't pay the as far as them being in va, if you had been there then you would have know that it was in ky they had to go thru va to get to the wreck. and by the way if it had been you or one of your family would you want them to not help you or you family i think not.have a great day/night and hope you don't need the fire dept for any reason like a fire, wreck or sickness

No sir or maam I was speaking of the ones where I live. In Florida. And not all of them. I've heard nothing but good about phelps. Except the confusing story where someone punched one of them out. We used to thank them for their job here but then they wanted more and now they control everything and want arrest powers. It's unbelievable. It's a hard and dirty and sometimes do-nothing and sometimes easy and sometimes heroic job but it's just that. A job. And it comes with some cachet so I think that most should be thankful to BE firefighters. Not everyone gets a chance. Peace !

touchy touchy. Why would you call me names when I am just stating an opinion? That is not very nice and I was not talking about phelps. You have to look around at other places. When we first had family HERE, in Florida it was like country and the firemen were volunteers. Now, as years have passed there are NO VOLUNTEERS. They are all highly paid people who get away with murder. Here in Florida. Not one of them owns a car less than 2005 or 2006. So it might not always be volunteer there, either. I happen to give money for good causes all the time so how much IS the fire fee? Is it too high for people to afford? Imagine a place where people used to do all for themselves and each other and now others say: pay your garbage fee, pay your fire fee..... maybe they want to burn their own garbage. We used to have a private guy come collect ours. And the only reason we did not burn our garbage was because my Mama said he needed to be paid. He was a poor man dependent on his customers to support his family. We did not have much either but he worked hard, he was always there and he collected everything without whining like the city guys do here in Florida. Now they're all union and mob and will put their nose in the air at stuff they don't want to pick up. AND it's over fifty dollars a month !!! It would be OK if they'd just do their job but now it's all automated, special can etc.. so the price should DROP. LOL. My family knows how to take care of our bills and we undertand people have to eat. We're all in this together. Take care

Wait, they had a fire at a coal mine and phelps FD absorbed the cost?
Six thousand is not even enough to keep A CAR RUNNING. That's crazy.
