It hardens my heart to hear that yet another youth has been killed in a senseless accident. I have a nephew and a niece that both attend Mt. Tabor High School and they both (especially my nephew) knew this young man very well. From my understanding he seemed to be a well liked person with a great sense of humor. My nephew was almost speechless when he found out and all he could do was cry. He couldn't seem to say anything except that Ethan didn't deserve to die and is at a loss when it comes to understanding that his friend is no longer here.

I expressed to him the same thing that I would tell any other teenager reading this article. Life is a PRECIOUS gift, NEVER take it for granted. Rememeber to make wise choices and decisions because you never know who you will affect when you don't. Unfortunantly, this young man's life is gone, but I pray that this entire situation has opened the eyes of his friends and teenagers all around Winston-Salem and helped them understand the importance of being responsible especially when operating a motor vehicle.

Let us also not forget that there is a young man that is alive who will have to live everyday of his life knowing that a poor decision caused his friend to lose his life. So my prayers are not only with the Smith family, they are with this young man and his family as well. May God grant all of you piece of mind and give you the strength that you will all need to heal and forgive!

How tragic! I can't help but reflect though on the similiarities between this and other recent accidents. It occurred at approximately 2AM in the morning. 16 year-old children out at that time of night are clearly at risk!

I thought that at 16 years of age they could not drive after 9pm? Why are teenagers out so late at night/early morning?

Wondering if any phones or texting were being used. Shame that so many of our young are being taken away while driving.
