James had the advantage of 'not being born in Petros, TN' The natives of that town haven't the sense to know that an escape is needed.

I did not know that Ray had ever escaped. It is inconceivable to me this would be allowed to happen.

There is a book on the subject by Stonney Lane. "Building Time at Brushy." It is available on Amazon.

Also to add, MSNBC recently aired a "LockUp" show in which a current inmate tells his story of how the escape happened. Quite interesting. James Earl Ray lasted a little while but the rugged terrain of the area made a true escape nearly impossible. Brushy Mountain has a natural mountain wall, the prison was partically constructed from stone straight out of the mountain.

I loved the book Building time at Brushy. I started it 1 night and didnt lay it down til the next morning. I liked the fact that Mr Lane was a laid back person. Talking about his drinking in TX i think. Its been 2 years since I read it. I think I'll get it back out and read it again. Id like to see the LockUp, what channel do you see it on???????

to mo co prag: you know the natives of petros sure has the sense to house james earl ray for all those years and provide an area for an unsucessful escape. so why need an escape when you know it is a failure from the start. you thank god was not lucky enough to be born here in this little town "home of the movie, "october skies" and the great book, "building time at brushy" written by stonney lane, who by the way is a great admirer of this little town of petros, so therefore i believe you have the town of petros mixed up with the town you were born in.

i was born in petros, tn 55 years ago and very proud of it, my husband was born in petros, tn 60 years ago and proud of it. he guards people like james earl ray everyday of his work week and damn good at doing it. try visiting our small town sometime and experience the friendly and hospitable people lucky enough to be born in petros, tn that is if you have the "sense" too, moco prag, or could you be one of our rejects.

Of course I've visited Petros many times. I would not dare to offer an observation without empirical evidence, even if it is only personal experience. I certainly could be one of the Petros rejects. Where one cannot love, there one should just 'pass by'
