There are actually two slates; Emil is running against Charlie and everybody else is running for two slots.

Emil was appointed when Farley pulled a Palin and abruptly quit. Emil is a great guy and very generous of his time but Charlie is a real candidate. Charlie has real experience and gets my vote.

The Times Standard left out stealth candidate Rey Urbach. I say stealth because his interviews sound so reasonable but his behavior at board meetings has been rude and outrageous. When asked if his children attend Ferndale schools, his answer to the Ferndale Enterprise was less than honest. I support anybody but Rey.

I am optimistic that most of our community can move forward after this election.

The Ferndale Enterprise is a source of accurate information about the difficulties that the Ferndale Board has created with their fussing about the attempt by Garamendi to implement the desire of the Ferndale community to get the school kids under some kind of discipline and get the classrooms under some kind of progress towards education without gang influence. The T-S can compete with the political campaigns of the candidates, but you can't find an honest perspective in its coverage of the issues.

You don't "speak" for the people anymore than I do. The Ferndale Enterprise does not "speak" for the people either. You and I and the Editor of the Enterprise expressed our individual opinions.

There was nothing dishonest in the Times Standard coverage. In fact, there was really nothing more than allowing the candidates to speak. I'm sorry I thought the T/S missed Urbach. It seems he didn't turn his homework in on time. Surprising, since he wrote a thesis for the Enterprise.

I guess we'll see on Tuesday.

A vote for Emil is a vote for Caroline. Do you really want her and her puppet running our schools?

I may not know Charlie like some people claim they do, but a man does not hold the position of superintendent and commissioner of a league without being trusted and making good decisions. He appears to be in it for the kids of Ferndale.

"get the classrooms under some kind of progress towards education without gang influence."

Gang influence? In Ferndale? HA HA!! ha haHA
Oh my, that is hilarious.

No, Ferndale schools suck. Obviously something needs to be done. Not sure if more money is the answer, but teacher accountability definitely is.

Cindy, You are sooo far off. Do the schools in Ferndale need tweeking to be a better preforming school for all its students, YES. Do the suck, NO!!!!!!!!!!
Does there need to be more teacher accountability, maybe, but I know for a fact that students will only make their education a priority when their parents make it a priority by actions in the home and not just lip service. Education starts in the HOME and without education having the top spot in the home students at any school will continue to struggle. Are there teachers who just call it in, yes all over the country and those who do should be called out! How many parents all over the country don't bother with their kids education and just give lip service to the educators about what is going on at home. They are not stupid, if the kids were really working that much at home they would be passing!!!!! Tired of the teacher bashing!!!! Look in the mirror america, our teachers are not failing, we as a society are failing our children. Support education by doing your part at home!!!!

When a Ferndale teacher tells us, at a parent teacher meeting, that it's "OK that our son is failing math" ( our son, who was in the G.A.T.E. program) "not to worry about it, that he'll be just fine," I think there is a real problem.

Yea, we pulled him out of that school the next day, and now, he IS doing just fine, thank you.

Some parents feel like "Cindy" and Rey and move their children to another school. For every one of them, there are two getting their kids out of those other schools and into Ferndale.

Of course there is work to be done. But the current administrator is equipped to do that. She is needs the support of a good board and Lakin is the right choice.

So what your are saying as that you based your assessment that the schools in Ferndale suck because of your run in with one teacher at one school? Nice Cindy, really well thought out comment!!!

I graduated from Ferndale and my education was mediocre. Only reasons people move their kids to ferndale high is to play football or for the child to go to a safer school. You do not enroll your child in ferndale for them to get a better education. I loved going to school at ferndale because of the people, not because of the academics.

Do you really think it was only this one teacher? This was actually just the final straw.

Most parents don't stand by the teachers, kids to school drunk or druged, this has to STOP now. Foul language out in public, so many kids out of control in this small town.
Joanne and Emil are relatives, lets not have 2 from one family on the board.
If the kids aren't passing their classes, NO football or any other sport. Some of these students can't even make change at a job.
This is the real world, teach these kids and let someone else balance the budget.

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Cancer

Be careful today Cancer, because your emotions could cloud certain issues as they often to and leave you feeling confused. You should be especially wary of believing what you want to believe, rather than believing the evidence in front of your eyes. It's easy to kid yourself now about someone's motives or reliability, even if deep down you know that you're telling yourself a load of old twaddle.
