When traveling around the United States and people ask you where you are from you promptly pull out your right hand and point here........

Watching most outdoor sports require the use of snowpants and mittens. Even in the summer months.

I grew up in Empire and Traverse City. Petoskey stones were a common find on the beach. It is easier to see the honeycomb pattern when the rocks are wet.

I used to get Agates on the shore of Superior and occasionally found a Petoskey stone in the mix. They haven't much specific value other than being a piece of Mother Michigan Nature.

My mother-in-law (from Kentucky) still does not understand the UP. She always asks why can't we just say Upper Peninsula.
I tell her, when Kentucky changes it's road signs from "Fallen Rocks" to "Falling Rocks" she will understand.

You know you're from MI when you wear shorts, flip flops, and a hoodie!

I moved to Ky about 6 years ago and when people ask where I'm from I always hold up my hand and point at Petoskey. Every time, without fail, they get excited and say "Oh, the UP?" Umm...no.
