Sue the Sierra club for 660 Million dollars for delaying the project by their hysterical propensity to file baseless lawsuits and delaying the project every time.

Then confiscate their buildings, equipment and donations to pay for it.

Enough already build the darn thing. The Seirra Clubbers around here are all old out of touch aging hippies, they will die off soon so we will get the bridge, plus the stench of patuchlli and old cheap pot will go away as well. Memo to Seirra boys,Woodstock is over,Jerry Garcia is dead and the Vietnam war is over find a new project like feeding kids or increasing jobs.

"Washington County Commissioner Myra Peterson, who helped lead the Wakota Bridge Coalition, will meet with the members of the St. Croix coalition next week. She said she plans to offer this advice: "I would be building partnerships with North St. Paul, as well as Oakdale and Woodbury and with anybody who has a cabin in Wisconsin and with anybody who commutes back and forth between Wisconsin and Minnesota."

Delays caused by the Stillwater Lift Bridge have an "impact on all of the arteries going into the cities," Peterson said. "When I think of the length of time that we have put off building this bridge and the escalation in price, it makes me sick. We could have built it at one time for $80 million — now we're up to $668 million." "

This from one of the leaders of one of the worst transportation debacles in the state? Over budget and WAY over it's time line...I wouldn't trust Ms. Peterson to head another project.

You are right on the money [pun intended].
Lets not forget that Myra Peterson voted herselfe and a few other department heads [Jim Shug for example] a raise while cutting and trimming the county budgets.

What I really got a boot out of, was her satatement to the press when asked about it. Myra was quoted; "the taxpayers of Washington County should not concern themselves wit this [self voted in] pay raise, because it will be transparent to them in the long run.

Why do I get a boot out of that statement?
She was right. She is leading in the election polls, as she runs for re-election.
The voters of Washington County are exactly what she figures they are....forgetful and stupid.

Isn't it terrible these delays to an unnecessary expenditure? I really feel bad that the New Richmond Bank's president's patience is running thin. I guess he'll have to wait a little longer for those taxpayer subsidized earnings to start coming in. Poor fellow.

Joe, I know you're just trying to stir people up with your little diatribe, but is there anything realistic and fact based you can say? Or is it that you are trying to refight a 45 year old cultural battle you lost?

The difference between the Wakota bridge and this one is that building the Wakota bridge would not violate the National Scenic Rivers Act. No matter what, this will be back in court again. I have been following this since the 1980s and the script is always the same: MNDOT proposes a bridge plan that violates the National Scenic Rivers Act and then it gets shot down. Perhaps they should try a plan that does not violate the rules.

Frank, you need to stop drinking from that "libtard" legal koolaid and stop basing your statements on fact. It's much better to rant nonsensically about people being more important than mussels and how horrible one's commute is because of a personal decision to live on one side of the river or other.

We could have built it at one time for $80 million — now we're up to $668 million.

The state Attorney General ought to file a lawsuit against the Sierra Club and DFL for stopping this for years and make them pay the escalated costs.

Don't forget the other moron on the north end of the county Dennis "Tax Me More" Hegberg who drives around the county drunk getting DUI's. He is the only commissioner to vote no on this years levy, BECAUSE IT WASN'T ENOUGH MONEY. Myra needs to go bye-bye along with Dennis. We should have elected someone else 2 years ago.

What is wrong with you hippie sons a babies? Joe is dead bang on. You all sit around in your moms basements and blog and seem to care about a bridge and the spotted one eyed zebra, clam hippo but in realty when your mom dies that aging hippie you have sucked money off of you are on the streets,at 40 it is time to get out of your basement already get a job and the bridge is needed to find a job in this socialist economy run by Obama. The pachulli fmes will wear off when mom dies and her inheritance you get will be gone as Obama has killed that with a death tax so it is time to stop the protests and smell the bridge you hippie wanna be mopes.

The plain fact is, this bridge needs to be built and soon. Where the Sierra Club and it's lackey's s.crewed up was instead of fighting it the way they did, they should have worked together with the pro-bridge interests, the DOT and the residents from both sides of the river to come up with a workable solution. But then again that takes common sense, something these extreme thinking groups are completely devoid of.

Over 50% of the county's budget is spent complying with unfunded and under funded State and Federal mandates. The county cannot just cut spending for those mandates, so cuts must be made elswhere. Get rid of the mandates and the county's budget problems would largely disappear.(And I guess the same could be said for many counties, especially Hennepin and Ramsey.)

Rob, didn't get your sarcasm until the third time I read it. People just can't see the facts. In the time that the Stillwater bridge has been proposed multiple times, new bridges have been built at Hudson and Prescott. The difference is that these bridges comply with the riverway rules. Obviously, WIDOT is not so sure about the bridge location since they stopped building the highway a mile short of the river.

I have been to many of MNDOT meetings, and you are right this completely describes MNDOT. MNDOT only will consider plans that include a 65MPH bridge design, that precludes many types of compromise. The one thing I have noted is they do not know how to build a highway on a small land footprint. I90 is their kind of highway, 1/4 mile wide right-of-way to build 4 lanes.
