I had a friend in collage that went to prison for domestic abuse and firearm charges. To make along story short. He got pulled over by the police and they ask for his drivers license the police looked on the computer and seen the charges, they arrested him.He was the wrong guy,he was the victim of Identity theft. He did time and as he was doing time,he got beat-up,threatened and had to fight every day ect.The system works? The system is fair? Today when he gets close to the police or hear a siren he panics.Drugs and guns you have a choice (some people don't)

You guys are not looking at the "big" picture here...

It's not just a gun and drug charge, read in the article that this is guy a "CAREER OFFENDER"!

He has been given chances and opportunities to straighten up, and he has ignored them.

It's time to "pay the man"... There are consequences for your actions. I am truly sorry that this guy is in jail for that amount of time, but he made choices that put him there!

Your right, but there were more issues that were raised.that's why I commented the way I did.I know the system can be unfair sometimes but this guy had chances and choices and drug do kill one way or another(cause and effect)Don't feel sorry for his incarceration

Career offender or whatever the people deem him as in regards to the short time that he was actually doing crime , doesn't add up . he was 25 and maybe hustling for the last 10 but locked up atleast 4-5 years of that . That is hardly a career . now if they are basing is career around the amount of money that he made , then yeah , he probably earned them thirty or made enough money to lay down for thirty but what does a person really do with that kind of money ; eat , dress well , buy cars , screw other guys' chicks and laugh alot ? i'm going to miss that lil nicca for sure but it's hard to feel anything because so many others are doing time just as long and more frequently and the economy isn't rebounding because these guys are off of the streets .they shut the mexican borders down in order to force a drought 2 years ago because they new the recession was coming , it didn't save anybody from feeling the effects of 4 dollar gas or that milk was the same price as gas . a lot of those small businesses that politicians talk about building were carried by those drug dealers , robbers and killers that are locked up for basically life . because the average citizen always tries to save but the government has something for you too , 0% interest rates ; so it is better to be a borrower than a hoarder , right now . and i admit that drugs really do hurt a community as far as it's stability but it helps the economy recover earned wages without reprisal and the tax is 100% where as the ave. Joe is only paying between 10 to 22 % but like i said at the beginning , Whatever !!!!

well since you all want correct english ; here is how it goes . Yes ROBERTO did do the crime , but 30 YEARS is to long for someone to sit in a dirty jail . Like it has been stated before, people who have murdered someome only serve a five to ten year sentence of jail time ; while drug dealer's suffer pretty much a lifetime . Please tell me why this is so ??? Can anyone answer that ? NO,because the system is all twisted and messed up ! He has friends and families that love and misses him but because of 30 YEARS he will not be able to enjoy life with them . YES, he was one of the many drug dealer's that you all have pulled off the street's but take a deeper look ! Even police officers , teacher's, lawyers, etc are even dealing drugs . now tell me will they be locked up ? I totoally understand the concept of making an example out of someone, but that does not go for everyone. As TARA said "FREE BERTO".

p.s I am a 16 year old that attends petersburg high school and I can fully understand what's going on, and I'm very upset !.

Thats a long time he will be old when he gets out. Best thing for him to do is find a high spot to tie a sheet from put it around his neck and jump off the top bunk. This is what i would do in this situation. He will never find a job in 30 years or make ne thing of himself

The system makes an example out of you,if they had a new law to take affect or when there is a political thing going on,like a new judge, police chief, mayor ect. Some people are saying "hold your head-up" He needs to be holding it down, for all the shame he put on his self and family.I admit it's hard out here, but this man had choice and chance's to straight out his life.Let him be a man for once and do the right thing (His Time)Drugs kill! How many people he killed with drugs to get that new car, girls, fame and money, and now you want society to feel sorry for him! What about his VICTUMS!No one wants to get caught, and no one wants to pay the price when they do!Let him be a man and deal with it

Your age has nothing to do with your feelings or views. You should really read some of comments. There are certain rules to game and certain consequences. I'm glad to hear your school allow the students to make comment on subjects like this, I'm also glad to hear that your in the right place (school) keep your head-up!

If it were one of my kids I'd tell him:

You've brought shame to this family. You're on your own. Don't drop the soap.
