GOP Voters, Business Interests, And Governors Are Abandoning Congressional Republicans

As the government shutdown enters its eleventh day and the nation races towards a possible default, a growing number of Republican lawmakers, leaders, and voters are publicly blaming Congressional Republicans for the budget impasse. Though they fault President Obama for failing to negotiate with Congress, as the public mood sours, some within the GOP are hurriedly distancing themselves from the mess in Washington.

“It’s time for someone to act like a grown-up in this process,” former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu (R) told the Associated Press. Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R) agreed, remarking on Monday that “This is not how we should operate. It shouldn’t be about people fighting and yelling.’“The bottom line is we need that money in our economy to save rural hospitals and jobs in the rural areas,” Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) told the Arizona Daily Star on Thursday, criticizing the GOP’e effort to defund the Affordable Care Act.

The criticism comes as an Associated Press-GfK poll released Wednesday showed that “three-quarters of Republicans nationally said their party in Congress deserves a moderate degree or most of the blame for the shutdown” and a NBC/Wall Street Journal survey reported that just 24 percent of Americans now have a favorable view of Republicans — the lowest figure in the poll’s history. Seventy percent of Americans say Republicans are putting politics ahead of the national interest and have an increasingly dim view of Tea Party backed Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Mike Lee (R-UT), who orchestrated the current impasse.

In yet another sign of trouble for the GOP, business interests are also showing signs of discontent, signaling a possible rift with Republicans ahead of the 2014 mid-term elections.
Iowa Republicans “are recruiting a pro-business Republican to challenge six-term conservative Rep. Steve King (R), a leader in the push to defund the health care law,” the Associated Press reports and party establishment leaders in Michigan are threatening to recruit and fund challengers to Rep. Justin Amash (R) and other Tea Party aligned candidates.

Meanwhile, Republican governors — some of whom questioned the wisdom of shutting down the government over Obamacare in the first place — are scrambling to deal with sudden shortage of federal dollars in their states.

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R)“has ordered the state pay 244 federally-reimbursed employees who support the National Guard” and has committed to “funding federal programs like SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) and WIC (Women, Infants and Children) through the end of October.” Maine Gov. Paul LePage (R) has declared a state of “civil emergency” and warned that “our federally funded state employees may have to be laid off.”

A report released earlier this week found that the shutdown is disproportionately affecting Republican-leaning states like Virginia, Alaska, and Alabama, which have higher concentrations of federal employees and federal contracts.

Cognitive Dissonance and the Republican Denial of Reality

Theres not a day that goes by where I dont walk away from reading some of the comments I get on Forward Progressives or Right Off A Cliff and wonder to myself,What must reality be like on whatever planet Republicans seem to live on?
Because it damn sure isnt the same planet, or in the same reality, where I live.

These are the people who claim to be the party for fiscal responsibility, yet havent had a president from their own party balance the budget since President Eisenhower who served over a half-century ago. Hell, Ronald Reagan (the man many of them champion as the epitome of conservatism) drastically grew our deficits and our national debt during his time in the White House.
Tell me again how thats being fiscally responsible? I still dont get that.

These are also the people who call themselves Christians while condemning the poor, vilifying the needy then supporting policies that perpetuate greed and selfishness. All things which are direct contradictions to the values for which Jesus Christ lived and ultimately died for. Yet millions of these people still continue to believe themselves to be Christians basically because they oppose abortion, same-sex marriage and attend church frequently. Two things which Jesus Christ never even spoke about, and church being something he did warn people to be wary of as often times people speak of God to benefit their own selfish ambitions.

And dont even get me started on their stance as the party for small government. They love government. They constantly support big government when it benefits something they support or oppose. They only really oppose government when it goes against their ideological beliefs.

Now we have this government shutdown, where somewhere in the delusional minds of Republicans they believe theyve been given some kind of mandate that allows them to shut down our government in a pointless attempt to stop Obamacare.

Never mind the fact that President Obama was overwhelmingly re-elected or that Democrats were given more seats in both the House and the Senate somehow, Republicans think the American people have spoken and have given them a mandate.
Well, the American people did speak. They re-elected the man who signed the health care bill into law and gave more seats back to the party which supports the law.

Then as John Boehner sits there, refusing to let the House vote on a clean version of the Senates resolution which would reopen the government (hes simply saying there arent enough votesthough refuses to prove it) they still blame the shutdown on President Obama and Democrats.

Yet they really cant answer how its their fault if Boehner wont let the House vote.

But none of this really matters to Republicans, and theres an easy answer as to why. See, most of them suffer from whats known as cognitive dissonance. To put it simply, cognitive dissonance is the brains inability to handle two conflicting realities, so it creates an alternate one which often defies actual reality.

The first time I heard this term was in reference to abusive relationships and how individuals somehow convince themselves that abuse equates to love. While to an outsider the abusive behavior is a complete contradiction to love, the person being abused creates some alternative form of reality in their minds where they deserve the abuse. They feel its justified. They love the person abusing them, want to believe that they love them back, but the abuse completely contradicts these feelings. Therefore, their mind simply creates some delusional reality where abuse and love seemingly go together.

Thats how I view most Republicans. What they want to be real doesnt correspond to what is real, therefore instead of facing the stark reality that their whole political ideology is wrong, theyve simply concocted some alternate form of reality where facts, science and history dont matter.

Theyll scream at the top of their lungs that Obama is the worst president in history!
yet cant tell you any factual reasons why. Sure, they can spout off a bunch of right-wing talking points taken directly from Fox News or Rush Limbaugh, but they cant actually recite much of anything factual.

Many will stare you straight in the face and tell you that President Obama made the economy worse, while ignoring the fact weve created around 7 million jobs in the last 3 1/2 years.

Republicans will blast President Obama for his spending, while ignoring the fact that year to year deficits have been reduced by their largest margins since WWII.

Theyll talk about how Obamacare is a failure, yet cant list 5 factual statements about the health care law.

Patriotism is a word they often use, just before they talk of secession whenever they dont get their way.

Theyre simply suffering from a severe case of cognitive dissonance. The reality they wished existed doesnt, therefore theyve simply created an alternate reality where their rhetoric makes sense.

Where:
Youre fiscally conservativewhile running up giant deficits.

Youre for small governmentexcept all the times when you want government to support your side of the argument.

Youre a patriotwhile talking of secession and revolution whenever the Constitution doesnt support your ideology.

Youre for the Constitutionyet that same Constitution rarely supports your policies.
Youre against the government shutdowneven though many members of your party had been calling for one.
Youre a Christianwhile supporting policies which contradict the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Youre for the middle classby supporting policies which screw them over for the benefit of the rich.
Youre against government programswhile living off government programs.

Youre against people on welfarewhile you live in a state that takes in more federal dollars than it pays out.

The list could honestly go on and on. The absolute hypocrisy within the Republican party is rampant and seemingly endless.

And the simple explanation is that many of then suffer from cognitive dissonance. What they want to be real isnt, therefore the only way their brains can handle such conflicting events is by creating a version of reality that doesnt make sense or exist.

Which is exactly what many of them have done.

http://www.forwardprogressives.com/cognitive-...

What a fantasy world they live in. They need to get into the real world. haha They do suffer from cognitive dissonance among other things. hahaha

Jon Stewart Slams Republicans, Says What a lot of Americans Have Been Saying for Years

I always joke how its kind of sad that some of the best news I get comes from Comedy Central, but that often seems to be the case. I guess people like Jon Stewart do have a distinct advantage over traditional journalists in that he can often say whatever he wants.

Well, he took to the airwaves to take a direct shot at something myself, and many other Americans, have been saying since Republicans began attacking Obamacare.

What the hell is your alternative?

Stewart went directly at this blind Republican hatred of Obamacare by pointing out the fact that while Republicans are quick to bash the health care law, they offer absolutely no alternatives. They just sit there whining and complaining about the law, doing everything they can to obstruct it, but if you ask any of them what their alternative is to fix our health care systemI doubt youll get any answers.

He also went on to remind people of the asinine comment made by Mitt Romney during last years presidential campaign when the former GOP presidential candidate said that we already had health care for poor people its called the emergency room.

Stewarts exact words were:

If you have a better program, Republicans, lets fucking hear it! But dont make your plan,What do we need food stamps for when we already have dine and dash?

Very eloquently put, if I do say so myself.

But hes absolutely right. Before the Affordable Care Act, the emergency room was seen by millions as their health care plan. Hospitals all across the country budgeted for millions of people they knew theyd provide treatment for, yet never receive any form of payment from. And do you think they simply absorbed these costs? Of course not. Those expenses were then passed on to people who did pay through higher health care premiums and cost of treatments.

So when someone like Romney said that the ER was an option for poor people, he put his ignorance on full display as to just how expensive emergency room visits are and just how much impact millions of people using them as their sole means of health care has on those who end up footing the bill.

And while you might not like the Affordable Care Act, it was clear before it was signed into law that something needed to be done about a health care system that desperately needed some sort of positive makeover.

So here we are with Obamacare rolling out to millions and Republicans still bitching and moaning about how horrible the law is. Yet, over 3 1/2 years after it was signed into law by President Obama, Republicans still have no alternative if the law were to actually be repealed.

Its just more of the same right-wing rhetoric about how terrible the law is, with no plan to replace it.

But then again, isnt that what the Republican party is all about? No real plans for anything, just a whole lot of rhetoric. I mean honestly, this is what their entire economic ideology essentially consists of:

◾Cut taxes for the rich
◾Cut spending for the poor

Thats basically it. Neither of which are really plans as much as theyre really just bumper stickers and campaign slogans. Theyre failed theories that make for great talking pointsand thats about it.

And with health care theyre no different. They can talk until theyre blue in the face about the evils of Obamacare(most of what they say being blatant lies, by the way), but youll find very few Republicans that actually have any sort of plan to replace it.

So while Republicans have done a masterful job at working their supporters into a fearful frenzy of hate, anger and paranoia about Obamacare, most conservative voters have forgotten to ask one very simple question:Whats the Republican plan to replace it?

Talk about DENIAL...that's the repukes

Republicans Deny President Obama Was Ever Re-elected, Believe 2012 Never Happened

Over a week into the government shutdown, patience has grown thin with many Americans. As millions of American lives face uncertainty with the antics going on in Congress, leading Congressional Republicans made a startling revelation into why they believe theyre in the right as it relates to the government shutdown.

It seems they dont recall President Obama ever being re-elected. In fact, many of them seem unable to recall that there was even a presidential election held on November 6, 2012.
When Speaker of the House John Boehner was asked why he feels Republicans have the right to hold our government hostage even after President Obama overwhelmingly won re-election, he seemed confused, asking,Who was re-elected? I dont recall that happening.Obamacare is bad, the American people have spoken.

Following his statement, another reporter responded by asking,If the American people have spoken, wouldnt that mean they support Obamacare? You know, considering that on November 6, 2012, President Obama was re-elected and Democrats were given more seats in the House and Senate.

Boehner replied,What happened on November 6, 2012? Was there something going on that night I wasnt made aware of?

Looking confused and flabbergasted, reporters then turned to Texas Senator Ted Cruz to see what he had to say. Considering he was elected to the Senate for the first time that night, he surely had to be aware that the 2012 elections happened and President Obama was overwhelmingly re-elected.

One reporter asked Cruz,How have the American people spoken out against Obamacare if they re-elected President Obama, while also giving more seats back to Democrats in both the House and Senate?

Cruz, with a puzzled but cocky look on his face walked to the podium and addressed the question, saying,On November 6, 2012 the American people spoke clearly when they elected me the next senator from Texas. The rest of this liberal propaganda about some overwhelming victory for President Obama seems like something the communists want you to believe. The American people have rejected President Obama and his radical Obamacare as made evident by the fact that the government is shut down and I am a United States Senator.

Somebody else stood and said,Boehner not letting the House vote on the Senates resolution is why the governments shut down, not because the people have rejected anything.

Boehner responded by saying,There arent enough votes in the House to pass the Senates resolution. The person then asked Boehner to prove it, to which Boehner replied,No.

Rand Paul was also in attendance, and stood to say,Im confused as to what you people mean when you say President Obama was overwhelmingly re-elected. When did this happen?

Looking totally confused, most reporters simply stayed silent. That is until someone from Fox News decided to ask a question directed at both Cruz and Paul:So, last November when absolutely nothing happened except for you two fine gentlemen becoming senators by some magical process that didnt include any sort of national elections, what do you think the American people were saying?
Cruz quickly replied,That they were rejecting Obamacare. Paul agreed by saying,Yes, it was a unanimous rejection of Obamacare.

One reporter rose in anger, shouting,Then why did the American people re-elect President Obama and give more power back to the Democrats in Congress?!

Cruz looked on for a moment in silence, glanced over to Paul and Boehner and finally said,We really have no idea what youre talking about.
Now, did this press conference actually happen? Of course not. But I believe its a fairly accurate mocking of the delusion thats currently going on in the minds of many Republicans.

Last November President Obama, running with the promise of fully implementing Obamacare, was overwhelmingly re-elected president. Not only that, Democrats gained seats in both the House and the Senate. Yet despite these facts, Republicans seem to feel that they were given some kind of mandate to shut down our government in a feeble attempt to stop the Affordable Care Act.

Its as if they either dont care about our elections or are simply in denial that they ever happened. Its as if these clowns dont understand that if the American people were really rejecting Obamacare, Mitt Romney would be presidentnot Barack Obama.

And whether or not Republicans want to act like it, elections do matter. While there is no doubt that millions of Americans oppose Obamacare(mostly due to the blatant lies that have been continually told by Republicans), they had their chance to elect Mitt Romney and failed to do so.
Instead, through our voting process given to us by our Constitution, President Obama was re-elected.

It just seems Republicans either dont care or seem to want to pretend that the presidential election held on November 6, 2012 never happened.

But it did, and that night the American people spoke loud and clear when they re-elected President Obama and gave more seats in Congress to the Democratic party.

And thats the funny thing about reality just because Republicans want to pretend that neither of those events ever happened, doesnt mean that they didnt.

She rattled off a couple of regressive lies she's been told, which I promptly corrected. By the end of the conversation, she had a whole different view! If you haven't seen it yet, check out Susan Collins'(R-Maine) proposal. The House Repubs may end up being left out of the solution entirely.

He can't comprehend in his small little feeble republican mind how odd that is. But it's fun to make him jump thru hoops and make him look like the idiot he is.
Ignoring him when he posts his infatuations with me makes him post more..... I just hold the hoop higher and laugh at him.:-D
They're so stupid they'll jump thru the hoop over and over. Pure ignorance at its best.
He is a pathetic loser freak. I think I will do the same. He thinks I am foxnews although we comment totally different and fauxnews has been here awhile. I believe he was the original wtf when the thread started and this Glasgow creep took it so he changes his from time to time but usually sticks with foxnews one with one or two liners. The sock knows that but he is trying to get us to respond to him. He is a pathetic loner seeking attention that is for sure. Pure ignorance at it's best is right. What a sad dark little world the freak is in. Needs his meds checked for sure. haha

Never seen that email from topix. lol

RIP GOP CONS
