As some of you know, my husband and I moved to the Oregon coast from California a couple of years ago due to a promotion in his work. We fell in love with it here and love it except in the middle of August when tourist season is at fever pitch. The traffic is so bad this time of year and stores crowded with people. RVs everywhere. It's great for businesses but after a couple of years of experiencing it, I see why locals plan their own vacations this time of the month and head out of town!! LOL
On the glass half full side, at least you live in a place that people want to go to and not get away from all year round!

Coastal towns always have the most tourists in summer. If you don't want tourists move to Nebraska. ;)

some tourists are rude and unthoughtful. it doesn't matter how much money they spend, some locals would rather be left in peace than dealing with litterbugs, traffic jams and inconsideration for an entire month or summer. i understand the frustration. :(

Inconsideration.... that's a good word. Lindsay's grandparents own an awesome house in a summer tourist town. They have to deal with visitors who climb their fence or go through a gate with a "No Trespassing" sign on it, to take pictures of their amazing rock pond garden. It's their retirement passion and they don't do it for tourists, they do it for themselves. That's why it's on private property and not public. I've heard the stories they've told about rude people parking in their driveway, sidewalk, knocking on their door, etc.

We have a No Solicitation sign out front. I feel a tad bit sorry for the Jehovah Witnesses who don't feel they fall into that category and want to promote their religion when Brad answers the doorbell. LOL

I can certainly sympathize with your friends when it comes to cleaning up after tourists and non local visitors. We live on a stretch of road that leads to a popular lake. We never see more trash on the side of the road than when its the opening of fishing season and in the late summer when the water is warmest. It's up to us who live there year round to clean up the mess that others left behind.
