"Seems hypocritical to ticket a skateboarder or bicyclist when you are riding a motorized skateboard yourself."

So, what you're saying is that if a police officer has to speed in order to catch someone breaking speed laws the officer should be ticketed as well?

I believe you may have misinterpreted what was written. Most people, particularly the students in this case usually see a police cruiser and behave differently.

My concern would be putting the campus community at risk by riding a scooter without lights, siren etc... Most students traverse the campus with a cell phone glued to their ear or wearing their i-pods. How would they hear the officer trying to pass them in the event of an emergency? Like I said before, "The presence of a police cruiser and the officer deters more crime than most people would ever imagine". It would be great to catch some perp with while on a scooter, but then it would take an officer in a cruiser to take the perp away.

Swine.

What's come of us when a discussion of anything is censored because it isn't topic-relevant or, worse, sugar-coated?
Journalists murdering open and free communication? O Gods!

But I'd better get on topic before I'm shot at.
It's hard enough for a University Police Officer to be taken seriously. The common view is that they're nothing more than a glorified mall security officer. Anyone who does a bit of research on the subject will find ths to be wholly untrue, but who has that kind of time anymore? Taking the officers out of regular patrol cars and making them scoot around on a child's toy is demeaning and self-defeating in the face of it's practicality. It seems to this writer that the Chief is so over-zealous with keeping up with the Jones that he doesn't realize the Jones are waterheads.

The Officers there at Chico State are pretty decent people. But, you're correct about the over-zealous chief. Over $7,500.00 spent on scooters that are sustainable. What's so sustainable about spending that kind of money on silly scooters during these economic times. Then Srgt. Beck is on TV proclaiming how this will get officers out of their cars. When was she hired? Never saw Srgt. Beck on the street..... Give the state a break!

Daily Horoscope for January 5

Taurus

Everything seems to be getting under your skin at the moment, but this is no excuse to lose your temper, and you know it. Better by far to be discreet and plough on steadily, without looking to the left or right. If you keep your feet on the ground and don't get discouraged, there are definitely fair winds that will blow you along. It's just a question of finding the right balance between confidence and commonsense.
