i am interested in finding accessible caves in or around perry county. I have enjoyed the natural areas such as the ball mill resurgence area in perryville and am looking for other interesting areas, mailny caves that may be open for exploration. I know that perry county has over 600 caves but I have not been able to locate any yet. Please help.

most of the caves are not open to the public or are on private property.

Go to conservation office they can probably let ya know if public ones are around. Also yahoo groups have hiking clubs and they get special permission from land owners to access caves. You will have to go with the groups though.

Find a way to contact semo grotto or little Egypt gotto, they usually have beginner trips in some local caves depending on how much u wanna get into caving. All caves in perry county are private and have to have land owners permission or it would be trespassing. Plus u need the right equipment cuz its dangerous. Their not just walk right though caves around here.

The Berome-Moore cave in the county (somewhere on PCR 906) is open to the public during certain times. You can't go down there unless you've got supervisors with you, though. Contact the Missouri Cave and Karst Conservancy -- it's a not-for-profit organization who analyzes and scavenges Missouri's caves, and they take fairly frequent trips down into Berome-Moore, and are always willing to take people along. In fact, I'm pretty sure the mayor went down one year with those guys.
