In lieu of the recent alleged threats at perry county school how many of you are keeping your children home either today or tomorrow?

I think a lot of kids are staying home. Everyone has their own opinion on this & I think if your not a parent then you wouldn't understand. Also these kids are scared & I don't blame them. I'm sure the parents that lost their kids would do the same thing.

The problem is that if you keep them home for this you are going to be keeping then home a lot. The kids that get kept home will be the ones calling in the threats to stay home more.

Don't get me wrong, it's not something to ignore, but this really is hype and it's sad these kids are all terrified over a bunch of rumors started by selfish idiots.

yea they are rumors now but as everyone can people are going crazy out there in the world. Its not happening in perryville yet but eventually it will. the world isn't going to end on friday. people live they die but cuz ur so twisted in the head doesn't mean u have to kill people. and cape has this crap non stop people shooting each other. yes people can say our town is crap or what ever back woods in the sticks I'm glad for that. we don't have people wanting to kill each other. yet as the economy spirals outta control things will happen. just hoping and pray u can be strong enough to survive it. I hope that it never happens but people can only take so much till they break. I hope our children are not the ones who get hurt. it'll be some guy shooting up work or killing his whole family..... I hope our town can be strong enough to not let this happen yes mental issues arise there too. just hope no one wants to hurt many of our citizens. we are a small community and we need to stand together and not let things happen in our town to our friends or family or children. we are not gonna let someone hurt us. all this talk on this site bashing shouldn't happen when people are worried u see an amazing change here but then it goes right back. its amazing how this community can pull together when we want and we all know we don't want anyone killed or hurt family friends children even if u dislike someone u don't want then to die. Im proud of this town. there's a few rough spots but we can come together when we try. its not something I wanna play at our children and families need to be protected there are people all over that are a little off and would hurt someone we don't want that to happen here. send them don't send them just hold them tight when u can love them and one another the best way you can we all have faults but we are human. spend time with you loved ones and families and be the best person u can possibly be. life is to short to waste on hurt or hate. love ur families if its our time then it will be. we are born we live we die. thats our design

I kept mine home for the simple reason that with tomorrow's date people can be unpredictable, i don't believe the world is ending but someone else might. I'd rather take precautions and just pick his school work up and nothing happen tomorrow and he has two absences than to send him and something bad happens. Part of being a parent is trying to keep your child out of harms way and in light of recent events that's exactly what im doing. How could i forgive myself if i knew there might be a possibility and sent him anyway and he never came home?

I just came from the elementary Christmas concert and have absolutely no doubt in my mind that our children are safe. There were police officers attending to ensure everyone's safety and very friendly and compassionate staff members at every exit. Every classroom door was locked from the inside so you have to be let in by the teacher. I feel that our children are safe in this district and am thankful for all our teachers, principals, secretaries and other staff members; as well as our law enforcement because after all don't we ALL have the same goal in mind as a community... Which is to keep our children safe. The concert was just what this community needed to remind us to keep our spirits high and to remind us just how special our children really are. Merry Christmas!

I could have struggled through reading this.... instead I quoted it, to ask you to revise it and make it more enjoyable for the audience.
Read it or not don't care real grown ups and parents will take the time to see what another parent has to say. Now this is a good thread and there is no need for the typical topix downers such as yourself to join in on this conversation. Its parents concerned for their families, children, and loved ones sorry if you can't be human and have to joke or say ill witted comments to people thoughts, opinions, and feeling on the world, this community, and safety of their families. So good day and may you find peace with what ever makes you how you are to others in this lifetime. Maybe u need more family time.

Believe me I am very grateful that nothing happened, and I commend the school and police for making it as safe as they could. Still we chose to keep him home because we felt that it'd be best, better safe than sorry.
