Of course not, but we all enjoy breaking them.

Speak for yourself.

Just rules are important. Rules made by fools are meant for breaking. Joy seems to come easily at other people's expense. It's difficult to see how anyone could truly find happiness in such nonsense. Yet, they seem to. They're usually drunk.

Define golden. Most rules are made to make someone money.

Golden requires no addition from me as a term. It implies by history to mean 'rules of divinity'.

The most solemn of rules make no one a dime. To abide by them does not get you attention if that's what you seek--the lack of attention should suffice. You attach far too much angst in your post, as if doing right has cost you dearly.

If you are speaking of the golden rule of antiquity, treat others as you would yourself want treated, then you are one hundred percent correct. If everyone lived by this motto, the world would know nothing but peace and prosperity. If your are considering the Ten Commandments as the golden rules, well some of them are good codes to live by as well. But a lot of rules are more pyrite than gold. May be all shiny but still fake. You just need to know how to tell the CZ from the diamonds yourself and not believe everything you are told.

Tell me, if your child was on the verge of dying and to save their life it meant to steal from another - thus not treat someone as you would want to be treated.

Would you?

If everyone followed the original golden rule, you shouldn't need to steal to save your child. But yes I would do anything for my children even myself. No one is saving their child by bashing another person on this sight. So I fail to see your point.

So the golden rule will not work unless everyone is following it? My point is the golden rule does not work in all real life situations. If the hope is only Topix will function following the golden rule - well, then you are just out of your mind.

I would expect ANY good parent to steal, from me, or anyone else to save the life of their child--therefore, they--in their thievery--would be doing precisely what I would do. Therefore, your premise is flawed; and the golden rule still applies.

That is NOT a golden rule, nor is it even a moral certainty. Stealing is relative, or at the least subjective. That does not give you the right to steal my 32 inch TV simply because you're too lazy to get off you arse and work. Your flawed premise is an 'emergency premise' and the breaking of a rule in an emergency ONLY.

Your entire premise is flawed. Just because the other good person did not catch your error in premise, does not make your argument any more sound or any less flawed. You are attempting to equivocate an IDEAL simply because you have no real clue as to what the IDEAL truly is.

You seem to dislike rules selectively. That does not make you brilliant--it merely makes you morally bankrupt.

In Israel in the time of Christ and before, people who raised crops in fields and orchards were required to allow for the poor--a certain part of their crops were ordained to be 'free to passersby' who were on the road, hungry, and unable to afford food.

Christ himself often stopped on his journey and ate the fruits and the crops, in enough amounts to keep him well-fed. He was not allowed, however, to take food from these farms and sell it and keep the profits.

You dislike the idea of 'any rules'. Not all of what you call rules are in fact 'rules'. They are most certainly laws. Probably half or more of all laws on the books today are bad laws. They are not golden just because some congress passed them and some governor or president signed them.

Rules stop anarchy, and saves your children from being murdered--or at the least, prevents it many times. Not all laws are good, and they should not be obeyed. Yet, I have never known anyone who was arrested for 'spitting upon the sidewalk'.

Try again, and this time use real reasoning.

OK, I don't like, I mean, I hate when fools try to push their made up "rules" based on their beliefs that have nothing to do with me. I equally hate when people use the term IDEAL when they really should use the word "Principal" or "Theory". Since the word IDEAL can carry multiple meanings, it is confusing and just shows ignorance and poor attempt to impress.

Since following an invented "golden' rule demands NOT "doing to others what I would not have done to me" it suggests I must allow people to do what ever they can put up with to me with total disregard how I feel. If you can take it the golden rule says you can dish it out as well. Not a nice theory to live by in my world but maybe yours.

As you pointed out, if everyone has a good reason to steal, then stealing doesn't violate the rule and is OK. You need to Get Real.

Yes, I am morally bankrupt and I appriciate you pointing it out. It clarifies your willingness to judge and do unto others and be judged yourself... as an idiot.

You are motivated by your own limited and malformed intellect; which is precisely why you are governed by blatant lunacy. You did not read—you skimmed. That's akin to doing a book report on Shakespeare and writing directly from your 'Cliff Notes notes'.

You require simple rules—and yes, ideals—because you are a simpleton. There is no great shame in you being a moron. Live within the confines of your abilities: or lack thereof. And for the love of everything holy—learn to write in complete sentences. You skip about as if you were schizophrenic in a room filled with flashing disco lights.

There is nothing 'Real' about you. You are a pretender. If GetReal is your entire vocation, you should work multiple jobs—or starve to death.

Nice job arguing your point!...oh wait, you didn't. Recognizing your position has no merit you try to attack with name calling. Again, demonstrating your inability to defend a position.

I will make it easy on you, I am a lunitic, simpleton, moron pretender who can't write complete sentences. And I provide your position is so wrong you couldn't defend it and were afraid to try. I would recommend you stay off topix as you are going to incounter many more like me who put you in your place - again.

Good Lord, dude. Yes, you are a moron. It's 'lunatic','encounter', and you still have no idea what constitutes a real sentence—and you abuse the wrong words while attempting to sound profound.

As for your so-called 'position', it never changed from the first time I lambasted it. You insulted poorly—I merely do it better and more quickly without going into a testosterone induced coma.

If you are going to whine and type like a kindergartner, at least sharpen your Crayolas and your prepubescent quips. I can hear you thinking—'I know you are but what am I.' Lube those wheels and feed those gerbils. A nice dictionary and MS Word would not hurt any.

If you're hearing things, it could be your Thorazine—or maybe you've been drinking alone a bit too much this weekend.
