I am glad to hear of a black bear sighting. Black bears are rather docile compared to other types of bears, and would rather run than fight. still dangerous though.

I didn't hear of wild hogs in the area, thats news to me! Wild hogs are more dangerous in my opinion because nobody thinks they are dangerous. They get fooled into false security, then WHAM! Hogs going wild on ya!

They've been in the area awhile, with lower number sightings. Like 2 weeks ago, on kfvs 12 they were telling deer hunters to shoot any hogs seen while hunting. Their numbers are getting higher on bollinger county, and so much more will be here soon. Scary huh? I live in the country very close to bollinger, I don't even let my 4 year old play outside unless me or his father or grandparents are within a few feet. There has been several sightings on our farm. No bears though, but I'd prefer bears over hogs any day. So I know what ya mean.

I was raised around black bears in northern maine. I have been as close as ten feet from one. If you leave them alone they will leave you alone. If you see one just make a lot of noise and whooping and hollering and they will run from you. They are scavengers and love to rummage through thrash and garbage so if there is one in your area keep you thrash inside a shed or a very good thrash can. They are not huge meat eaters. They prefer berries and honey although will eat meat if it is hungry enough. Whenever someone sees a black bear their first thought is to kill it. Leave it alone it will go away. They are scared of you as much as you are scared of them. They will do everything to avoid a fight but will not back down if confronted. If it is a mother with cubs do not approach the cubs get as far away from them as possible.

Very true, the only bad thing is, once they figure out how to get into your trash, or get inside a building to get trash, they keep coming back. I wouldn't mind having more black bears here, it's the mountain lions an wild hogs that scare me!
