After reading so much misinformation posted by too many uninformed persons, I wish to add my thoughts on this issue. Though “gun control” discussions are almost always emotionally charged, my intent is not to further immature comments that serve only to reduce the topic to name calling. I fully understand that nothing either gun control advocates or those with the opposite point of view will persuade anyone to change their position.

As a gun enthusiast, I fully support the second amendment and the basic freedom it was and still is intended to afford our citizens the right to keep and bear arms.

I believe any ban on AR-15 type semi automatic rifles would be a definite and unacceptable infringement on one of our fundamental rights. First of all, it (AR-15) should not be classified as an assault rifle. After 26 years as an active duty United States Marine including multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, I feel I'm quite qualified and I do know what constitutes a military assault rifle.

Among the 50 firearms I possess, only one is an AR-15. It is not an assault weapon. Mine is not used nor intended to be used for self defense. It is a sporting rifle I use as my primary coyote control gun. Many of the areas I hunt involve getting to the area via use of an ATV or occasionally even by boat. Limiting weight and space of equipment are significant considerations. My little AR-15 M4 is ideal. It is compact, reliable and rugged. The extendable stock in conjunction with the pistol grip, make it easy to pack; easy to carry; and handy to use. Again, it is a nearly ideal for my purposes as a coyote control tool.

Further, the two 30 round magazines I carry full are all the ammo that I normally carry even on multiple day excursions. They make it unnecessary for me to pack or carry additional boxes and pouches for ammo.

Generally speaking, the little 223 (5.56 mm) cartridge, when used with capable and proper marksmanship, is not a bad little “all around” choice for this and many other areas where I hunt. It is quite capable of taking small game without wasting too much meat. Although not ideal for it, it still possesses the capacity to take larger game animals including deer and feral hogs should the need be encountered. So my AR fits a specific niche and perfectly fills my requirements for one of my styles of hunting and especially for controlling coyotes during off seasons.

Since I am retired (and single), I spend a lot of time hunting and fishing. I feel fortunate that I’m able to be in the field more than most people I know. These are just my personal thoughts from my perspective and are not meant to inflame or trample on other’s beliefs and positions on this sensitive subject, however I do feel it is a point of view, based on my personal experience that I’ve not observed in any other posts in this thread.

Gun control has nothing to do with guns its all about control. Even if you don't own a gun you should be alarmed about this cause they are taking away law abiding citizens rights under the guize of keeping our children safe. Once they start they will try and take more and more and it won't stop with just guns so wake up and get involved. One of the worst pieces of law was the Patriot act which was pushed thru after 9/11 in the same way they are pushing more gun control after Sandy Hook when the killer didn't even use an "assault rifle" So get informed and speak out!!!!!!

I'm not sure what people need with assault rifles, target shooting maybe, but I also don't think taking them away is the right way to solve the problem. Maybe we could start by not giving these mass shooters the fame and media attention they wanted in the first place.

You are right in the fact that the media does sensationalize these events. And that only leads to more thinking they can get their 15 minutes of fame. And that taking them away is not the answer either because criminals for some reason don't follow the laws.

As for assault rifles, any rifle can be an assault rifle in the right hand or I guess I should say wrong hands if it's used to assault someone. But as for as a true assault weapon, those where taken care of in a law passed back in 1934. The anti-gunners keep redefining the term "assault weapons" to in compass more and more guns because they want them all taken. Read my first comment about my 22, and trust me it's not an assault rifle. Also don't let the media fool you as they are trying. The AR in AR-15 doesn't stand for assault rifle. It stands for ArmaLite the inventor of the AR-15.

Can anyone here tell me exactly what an assault weapon even is?? Where it is actually defined and not what Clinton and his administration made it to be in 1994? If I assault you with 2x4 isn't that an assault weapon? Because technically it is a weapon because I assaulted you with it!!! FYI if your gonna tell me that you don't use how you say an "assault weapon" for hunting I call B&LL$H!T my son killed his first deer in 2012 with what you anti-gun thumpers consider an assault weapon and do you know why? Because he was 6 and weights 45lbs! A "assault weapon" is small light and compact and has all the components to minimize recoil!! No he didn't use a 30 round magazine he fired one shot that's all he needed if a magazine is the case then it should be called a assault magazine not a weapon!! And no I won't ever have to worry about my son committing horrible crimes with guns he is more safe with a gun than 90% of adults I don't wanna hear that crap out of your mouths been this way for hundreds of years this is the way it needs to stay

They want to controll guns so that people are not killed. There are alot of people that in favoer of that , but how would they feel if the government wanted to ban cigarets becasue they kill thousands of people each year. If they do get very strict gun controll what will be next? I saw a movie where only the police and military had guns it was call Schiendlers list. you need to watch it.

Guns don't kill people. People kill people. We need to ban drinking and driving cause of the number of people killed by that. Oh wait that is illegal, then how is it possible that people are still getting killed by it? Maybe they need to start enforcing the laws the already have.

You are correct guns do not kill people if they did nobody would ever leave a gun show alive. This is not the attack of the killer tomatoes. I have several guns in my house and they just sit there most of the time , they do not get out on their own and kill animals. I have taught them better then that they only come out when I let them and they stay right with me I know where they are all the time.

According to the bill they are trying to pass if you have a semi-auto with a detachable mag and have one military style add on (pistol grip, forward grip, adjustable stock, flash suppresser, ect.) then it is. It goes to show how stupid they are saying a 22 is an assault weapon.

Here ya go NEBKAH this is for your reading pleasure and judging by your previous uneducated comments please read especially the last few sentences in the last paragraph because it has worked very well for you!!! Ohhh and I would also like to take this time and remind you that Bonnie and Clyde used BAR's (browning automatic rifles) which were indeed fully automatic weapons and do you know where they got those from????...... Nah I'm sure you don't so I will just tell you! They were stolen from the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA'S NATIONAL GUARD ARMORIES!!! Wow can you believe that??? Just goes to show with a criminal of there is a will there is a way further more out of 800 mass murders since the 70's there has only been 1 mass murder that the shooter used legally owned and legally purchased firearms!!! The other 700+ mass murders the shooter illegally aquired the weapons just guessing but prolly stole them and like bonnie and cylde they were stolen from goverment facilities and police stations and squad cars!!! Do you have any idea why??? Because they plan these crimes long before they carry them out in hopes of getting away with it now any gun enthusiast knows when you buy a gun you have to register it and pass a background check to "legally own" that gun now i dont know about you but if im going to commit a crime with a gun i sure as hell dont want it traced back to me so what better way than to steal one!! Use your head a little bit!!!
Now what does this say? I'm pretty sure it means that law abiding citizens don't run around and shoot people up!!!
And now for your reading pleasure

An assault rifle is a military rifle capable of selective fire. This may include fully automatic fire, where multiple rounds are fired continuously when the trigger is pulled and held, and/or burst fire, where a burst of several rounds are fired when the trigger is pulled once. In the United States, fully automatic firearms are heavily restricted and regulated by federal laws such as the National Firearms Act of 1934 and the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986, as well as state and local laws.

Whether or not assault weapons should be legally restricted more than other firearms, how they should be defined, and even whether or not the term "assault weapon" should be used at all, are questions subject to considerable debate. As a political and legal term, it is highly controversial. Critics have asserted that the term is a media invention, or a term that was intended by gun control activists to foster confusion with the public over differences between fully automatic and semi-automatic firearms.

Did you read that last sentence^^^^*^^^^
Did u catch that?? To cause confusion to "uneducated morons" such as your self to think they are fully auto when they aren't!!! Give me the definition of an assault weapon!....... You can't because it's not defined anywhere! If you look up assault then look up weapon you can clearly see that an assault weapon is anything in the eyes of the holder of the assault weapon a object used to cause physical harm! That's a broad spectrum "baseball bat, knife, a broom, shovel, he'll even a gallon of milk!!!!!" and did u see the part that said that assault rifles hence selective fire which is 3 round Burst or fully automatic with one pull of the trigger are heavily restricted!!!! Do your home work it's uneducated people like you who will cause this world to go to $h!t because of your ignorance!! Further more look up the 1994 assault weapons ban and look of the criteria of what actually makes an assault weapon an assault weapon and I can give you a legitimate reason as to why that specific item should be allowed!!! Go ahead just google it why don't you put a little time into research and less time on topics thank you!!!!

I have several guns and I can use them. I have them in various spots in my home to use against intruders. Being an older lady, I feel that this is my right and no one should be able to come into my home and tell me what guns I can and can't have. I do have a couple that could make a mess out of someone , but the way I see it, an intruder shouldn't be where they aren't wanted. I think Gary made the right decision!!!!!!!!!!

The sheriff is correct. The 2nd Amendment was intended as a 'just in case amendment' to keep centralized power where it belongswith the people and not the government.
'He who forgets history is condemned to repeat it.'
What do you mean when he is a socialist? He is cramming socialism down the throats of the American people. I agree with you, but just.making a point. See you later capitalism and all these "Takers" win.

I have no problem whatsoever with people's 'beliefs'. I do have problems with people's 'actions'. The Constitution is not negotiable. The second amendment has a purpose, and it's not enough to say 'I defend the idea'.

I have personal experience, but few people here take the time to read of those experiences. They are here to bastardize the Constitution and replace it with nonsensical ideology. They are usually socialists who believe the government can do better than the average citizen. They do not mind placing their fates and freedoms in the hands of politicians. I do.

Godspeed and Semper Fi.
