It depends on your definition of what is better. I can guarentee you that our opinions would probably be totally opposite. But I think you trivialize how great this country is. We ARE the leaders of the free world and no one disputes that. Ask anyone from any other country. If we opened our borders up there would be no stopping the millions of people all over the world clammering to get in, much more than any other country.
Many people would try to get in. That's true. Many people would try to get into Western European countries as well. We certainly would not see an influx of people from most Western European countries though. The people who would be trying to get in are those from third world countries and those who live under repressive regimes. As far as the Western free world goes there aren't many who consider the US a better country than their home country.
I'm curious as to how much traveling you've done in your lifetime.
Some in Western Europe and South America.
I am retired military and have traveled quite extensively overseas. Based on what I have heard over the 20 years of my travels, most people would love the chance to live here because of the better life we lead more than any other country. I'm not saying there aren't other countries out there that are great, and by the way, all of them are democracies, what I am saying is that taking everything into consideration when it comes to standard of living, health, prosperity, all the freedoms we have, the opportunity to be anything we want to be if we work hard enough for it, well, I can't name one other country that is better than ours.
But better is subjective. I can name many that I think to be just as decent of a place to live and work and raise a family. i wouldn't call them better just like I wouldn't call the US better than them. But that is kind of my point. This whole "best country in the world" thing is nothing but a personal opinion and no one should leave the country just because they don't hold your same subjective opinion about the superiority of the US to every other country in the world.
Let me put it this way. Looking at immigration numbers, many more people want to come into this country than us leaving to live somewhere else.
That is true of pretty much every Western democracy.
The ONLY reason would be because everyone knows you have a better life here than anywhere else on the planet.
No. Just a better life than the place they lived. Most often very poor third world countries or repressive governments.
Are we perfect. Far from it. But because we ARE the number one democracy in the world, we are constantly striving to make it better.
Again. "Number one democracy" in the world is nothing but your subjective opinion

Oh and I forgot to mention, caring is measured by what we do to help our fellow man and no one does that more than the US does. Name me one country that does better than us at giving donations, money or materials, to the world than us. No one.
Actually, per capita, there are countries that give more. Norway, I believe, tops the list.

Then by all means, go live there. I have a feeling a lot of people in here would not object. Oh and by the way, per capita means nothing, look at the OVERALL amount of money, that is the only thing that counts. You are so leftist it's laughable. Youa re exactly the type of person who will destroy this country from within. That I have no doubt. Your smugness is underwhelming. Have a nice day.

As I've said I have no intention of leaving this country. As for destroying this country, I see you are prone to overreaction. Hopefully you were more level headed in your military career.

Actually I do, and always have, worked very hard to do all I can to improve the societies of which I am a part. If you do not agree with my political positions then you are welcome to voice your own, but you certainly shouldn't expect people to leave their homes simply because they do not agree with you. This is a very immature response. Your best bet would be to rationally discuss matters and try to get others to see why you are correct, if you think you are.

Anyway, you have a nice day as well. And I actually mean it.

I am not concerned about whether she can work and run her home. That is none of my business. I am concerned about how well she can run a country. Let's talk about her qualifications and her history. What have been her successes and failures in that area, because I don't want more of what we have now.

Well, with the exception of taking a cheap shot at my military career, I will agree that people are entitled to their opinions. And as far as me telling you to leave this country if you dislike it so much, well, that is MY opinion and I am entitled to it and if you don't like it, I really could care less. And I do believe that it IS people like you that will ultimately destroy this country from within with your type of thinking. That's an opinion also, and if you think I am overreacting, well, again, that is your opinion right? I just get tired of people like you and all the negativity. Do you have ANYTHING good to say about the US? It would be nice to hear someone say positive things about our way of life, but if you are the hard core left liberal like I think you are, you probably don't have anything good to say. Again, my opinion. And you sir, have a nice day too.

I said this was a nice country to live and work in and a good place to raise a family. Is that negative? Or are you only picking out the pieces of what I say that confirm your bias against those who don't think exactly as you do? I think your comment is fairly telling.

And there was no cheap shot at your military career. I know nothing of your military career so how could I take a shot at it? It was a shot at your overreaction in this thread and surprise that someone with a military background would display such an overreaction. Surely you didn't serve I the military so that you could serve a country of people who only thought like you.

Apparently you just don't get it. these are my opinions and if you don't like it so be it. That's my point. Again you talk about overreaction. maybe to you but not to me. It's the way I feel, period. I'm not saying you can't feel the way you want to any more than you can say how I feel. I do however have the right, just like you, to feel that you are wrong. Anyway, I'm tired of going in circles trying to explain to you my opinions. this will be my last post. Have a nice day.

Maybe Obama could dump Biden and bring on Angelina Jolie.

She's traveled all over the globe, does tremendous charity work, looks good w/a gun and is a "mother of SIX." Take that, Sarah!

bonus point: brad pitt is way cuter than Todd Palin.:-)

so much passion expressed about presidential candidates when the real problem that effects our households everyday is the actions of local politicians. On election day it is time for Marylanders to rid ourselves of the officials who have been spending our money faster then they can take it from us. Being in office for 20 or more years have made them fat dumb and happy at our expense. Remember to put the blame where it belongs.

And most of them are Democrats so don't waste your time thinking that Marlanders have the good sense to throw them out. Marylanders walk lock-step to anything the Democrats do. Maryland has one of the highest property tax rates in the nation. The reason? Simple. Democrats control the state budget. And if you think that's bad, wait until the obama show takes over in Washington. On top of the already-to-high tax rate in the state, you'll be getting hit with federal taxes that will blow your mind. I won;'t be voting for him but my guess is with the biased media, he'll win. It'll will be interesting to see how much of a "tax break" he will give everyone. LOL, no way no how will he ever do that, you can bank on that one. And then he'll blame the previous administration for his lousy leadership and everyone will buy into it. God I'm laughing already at all the idiots who are about to kow tow to Obama and the marylanders will be the first in line to do it.

Agreed, and do any of you remember Capital Gains Tax on the sales of you homes? Sell your house after Obama is elected, and watch the gov't take 30% of the profit. Right now, you can sell as a single for up to $250k and married,$500k, w/o any Capital Gains Tax.
