Nobody will dare state it openly in the media, but here's the deal: North Dakota is so economically desperate that they want to keep the trial in Fargo because of the income from all the media who will pour into the town, buying hotels, meals, gasoline, etc. Why else would a town fight so hard to keep something which will only brand the town with a stigma? An ugly murder trial is one of the few ways North Dakota can actually draw people from outside the state. Pathetic.
