I am trying to help a friend find a small dog for free. She is on a fixed income and can't afford what they are charging for adoption. If anyone knows of a place that adopts out dogs for free or knows of anyone that has any I would appreciate the help. Thank you very much.

How is she going to afford the dog if she can't afford the adoption fee? Food, medical, do you want that free too? If you want to help this person stay out of it. You will be helping the dog too.

I am going to look over your rudeness. She will be able to afford that, she isn't asking for everything free, just the dog. She just can't come up with the $250.00 -$400.00 that they want upfront. I pray that you aren't this rude to everyone you come in contact with. Have a nice day.

You need a little help here. She CAN'T AFFORD the dog. One visit to the vet for an illness can easily cost over $200. We all know what happens in case your friends dog gets sick don't we? It is either left to suffer or disposed of. She could not even afford to have the dog euthanized. There are far too many irresponsible pet owners out there. We don't need another one nor do we need your ignorance. So many people, including you think all you do is go get a dog and go to Walmart and buy Ol Roy and and thats it. No other costs. WRONG.

Now here is what I suggest. Check your local animal shelters and see if they have a seniors for seniors program. You have to pay a small adoption fee, usually less than $100. They will provide free medical care and will take back the animal if things don't work out for any reason.

I am NOT here to argue with you. Leaving my friend aside. You have made this a personal attack against me. You have NO clue as to who I am or what we do with our pets. Our pets are VERY WELL taken care of. Our pets DO NOT eat Ol' Roy dog food and ALL of them have their shots, are chipped and eat Purina One dog food. DO NOT put me in a category when you DO NOT know me our anything about our pets. Thank you.

ALL I asked for was help. Instead I got jumped on for NO reason. All you had to do was respond with the last part of your post instead of bashing me.

It's sad when you ask for help that you get treated like crap by someone that you DO NOT even know for NO reason. This will be the last response from me that you get because like I said I'm not here to argue with you!

Don't care either way if you ever post a message again. Never said anything about YOUR pets. What I do know is YOU tried to get a dog free for someone who can't afford it. You sound like a responsible pet owner but in this case you were not thinking of the dog at all. Sorry if I was a little hard on you. Don't take it personal. I have seen too many suffering animals because people don't think first.

I agree with that other person. If she can't afford to buy the dog, she DOESN'T NEED A DOG!!! That animal will never get it's shots, spay/neuter, healthy food, decent care, vet care when needed. What's wrong with YOU?

If she can't afford to buy the dog, she DOESN'T NEED A DOG! The dog will need ongoing shots, spay/neuter if not already done, good food, good care, vet care if injuries or sickness. If she can afford all that, she can afford the adoption fee; it's CHEAPER than all the rest of the stuff by far. What is wrong with YOU???

NO ONE should ever get a free pet. Those are the poor animals that are wandering around loose, no shots, not spayed or neutered, sad, cold, hungry, sick. If you can't afford to buy the animal, YOU CAN'T AFFORD AN ANIMAL!!! It's not rocket science. AND STOP BREEDING!! Even if you get your babies homes by GIVING them away; that's that many others who were here first and still don't get a home with someone who CARES. That's right. You're people don't care. They just want a free animal to neglect.

Are you for real? No one can spell that bad.... But in case you are for real, you don't need a dog. Where in the world would you find a shelter dog for $400 to $500 anyway??? Love your little kids, spend ALL your time on them, and leave the poor animals out of it. Play with the poor little one you have; he doesn't need to watch another one go hungry and not get to the vet when he's sick or hurt; animals aren't stupid, you know. If you didn't have an animal, which I doubt you spend much money on, your kids could have a little better life and more of your time. Take care of your kids; that should be a full time job for you.

I think if the dog had a home and was fed and loved that would be better then just letting them die in the shelter. Now as far as feeding your dog Purina One compared to Ol' Roy it is the same stuff-made in the same plant. You need a food with out by-product and corn. Kirkland is the best cheapest brand followed by Nature's Own.

I have read the posts about the free dog for a friend. I guess there are many people that would like to help a dog find a good safe home. And there must be many that are opposed to paying to help the volunteer rescues offering the dog for what sometimes seems like an outrageous price. I too have seen these recues charge several hundres of dollars.

They have the option of going to a breeder who sometimes wants to place a dog that is no longer needed in their breeding program into a good home ...for free. Breeders talk to breeders and can sometimes help people find just the dog they would live to own. The new owner relieves the breeder of continuing the expense of food, vets and kennel space to obtain a home where the dog will get the love they have earned. That's more, most reputable breeders will accept the dog back if necessary.

I'd suggest the person determine what breed dogs they like most and explore the breeders. Usually, the new owner is responsible for neutering the dog. The new owner generally gets a dog that has many qualities that has several years of life remaining.
