Ariz. woman allegedly hit with car by Iraqi father dies

A 20-year-old woman from Iraq has died of injuries sustained in what prosecutors are calling an "honor killing." Faleh Hassan Almaleki, 48, of Glendale, Ariz., is accused of running over his daughter, Noor Almaleki, and another woman in his Jeep Cherokee because he was infuriated with his daughter for becoming "too Westernized."

This verse is speaking of infidels (ie. "slay the infidels wherever you find them" 9:5) who obviously became Muslim to escape the sword, but the Hadith make no distinction of how a Muslim came to be a Muslim. Apostasy is always punished by death.

Other verses that seem to support the many Hadith demanding death for apostates are Qur'an verses 2:217, 9:73-74, 88:21, 5:54, and 9:66.

Advocates for killing apostates have pointed out that the supporting hadith are reliable and thus qualify as law according to verse 4:80 - "Whoso obeyeth the Messenger obeyeth Allah."

Family honor killings are a relic of the 19th century third world, but which is unfortunately still practiced today. Of course the girl was becoming more "westernized". That's what happens when you come to the U.S. There is no national religion and everyone has the freedom to NOT do exactly what your family or church says.
Family honor is doomed by our modern society. Good riddance.

Don't narrow the definition of honor killings just to Muslims. Hindu people still practice it and even some Christian countries. Sometimes it just goes by a different name. In Columbia, for example, up until fairly recently, a husband could legally kill his wife for adultery. That falls under the definition of an honor killing.

In any case it's wrong and in my mind, it should be prosecuted as 1st degree murder.
