Peoria probably did the same disgusting trick as other cities who installed red-light cameras-shortened the amber light so there would be more violations, hence more revenue! They'll use the increased number of crashes to justify more cameras!

First of all if it were illegal instead of encouraged, to enter an intersection, waiting for the light to turn red so you can make a left, there would be less accidents. It mucks up all the traffic, because then the opposing traffic (who has a green light now) has to wait.
Second obey the traffic laws and you won't get busted by the cams.
Third remove the warning signs on the highways that say 'photo enforcement zone ahead', they should not be warned, they should be ticketed. It is not the cams that cause the accidents it is the law breakers who slam on the brakes during that zone, only to speed back up right after.
Fourth get the Cowboy Sheriff or whoever is responsible and enforce this crap and collect on the outstanding tickets and Maricopa Cty will be well on it's way to being out of debt.

Nice to see a fellow Phoenician that despises morons as much as I do...too bad they are also a moron and totally missed the point of this article. Well if you think that increasing accidents in the name of the state's revenue is a good thing than maybe you dont agree...My guess is anyone who lashes out against this headline without data to refute what it proclaims, probably didnt read the article or understand it if they did. I am fine with cameras and other intruments that reduce accidents in the city...But this data is saying that cameras are doing the opposite!!! More accidents are happening where cameras have been installed!!! Doesnt this bother you?

I went back and re-read the article to make sure I got the point. I hadn't but yet I still think it backs up my idea of the turning left on red habit we have.
The accidents were mostly from this maneuver. There would be alot less accidents if there were left turn arrows and definate left turn red arrows at most intersections. Just today I witnesses 4 cars on Bell Rd at 67th ave turning north from west, that were jammed up into the intersection, waiting to turn left after the light turned red. There is no going when traffic is clear right now because it doesn't. I try to accurately count off the seconds before the intersection was clear. Nearly 7 seconds went by. 6 seconds after the opposing lights turned green. That is an eternity in traffic light time. So now the opposing traffic is jammed out into the intersection to make their legal maneuvers but they can't because the others are all backed up. I can't seem to see how having the red light cameras at the intersections would have any bearing on accidents except for people looking at them or reacting to the flash. Man I am rambling.
