Watching your clip on the story regarding the Nickerson Inn fire,(One of Pentwaters oldest historical Landmarks)brought tears to my eyes. How Terribly sad it is to no longer have a Nickerson Inn.
I was raised in Pentwater from 1960 to 1973. I also worked for the Bakers in 1969'70 as a summer waitress. I was one of four young ladies who were invited to stay in the upper quarters above the kitchen area while we worked during the week for the Bakers. Deb Alvesteffer, myself and two out of town girls, Cindy and Linda shared some special memories that summer. I'll cherish them forever. Dru Baker was a tough lady to work for but I loved her dearly. She remained friends with my own family when my children were small until her death.
I printed out the article from your broadcast with the pictures and stories because it was one of many articles that did mention the Bakers.
Thank you

I was so sad to hear of the fire at the Nickerson Inn. I currently live in Illinois, but I am originally from West Michigan. That place was a 'landmark' to the area.

Please rebuild! Pentwater needs something like that again.:)

It is a huge loss to all who knew Nickerson Inn. My sympathies to the Shiparski family and all of the others with so many memories of the grand old place. I would like to commend every one of the responders and thank you for all you did: members of our wonderful Pentwater Fire Department and the good neighbors helping from Fire Departments coming from Hart, Shelby/Benona, Riverton, Crytal Valley and Pere Marquette townships. Law enforcement, EMS, the volunteers providing food and drinks and the Red Cross. Sorry if I missed somebody. Thanks to you All!
God Bless America.

If you read the 2 comments directly above mine you will see where others were questioning the city location. And your problem would be?

We were lucky enough to enjoy dinner at the Nickerson Inn this past New Years Eve. There were many courses and wines to match each course. Margretta looked lovely, the food was excellent, the chef's explanation before each course was enjoyable and the fire was warm and inviting. One of our dearest New Years Eve memories.

We had my brother-in-law's wedding reception there last July. The chef even made a special wedding cake for the bride & groom, who came in from Minnesota. Also, about 20 years ago, my wife & I stayed in the separate guest home by the street, which my wife thought was haunted. We've been coming to Pentwater for Summer vacations for over 30 years, and it just won't be the same without that jewel on top of the hill! How sad ;(

As a previous owner of the Nickerson Inn and one that had invested heat and soul in the place, my heart go's out to Harry and Cretchen, all the previous and current employees, the workers who labored diligently during the rennovation and to those who made the Nickerson Inn what it was--the faitful guests. We can only trust that time will heal the loss.
