Sunday liquor sales debated

Full story: Asheville Citizen-Times

RALEIGH North Carolinians would be able to buy liquor on Sundays under a proposal that would end the last vestiges of the state's 'blue laws.' But some mountain lawmakers say they don't support the change despite a trend of increasing alcohol availability in Western North Carolina.

It'd be a huge profit for stores on the South Carolina. Those Bible-thumpin' Baptists will never allow for the sale of it on Sunday, but they'll keep chugging it down.

Take it one step further and do away with the archaic ABD Stores. Let the grocery stores sell as they do in the other states. Let competition at it.

The way liquor laws have been going lately in North Carolina, this should pass.

And it's about time.

God help us in North Carolina and particulary in Asheville.

Asheville, Sin City of the East, sex, not among male and female but with the same sex, drugs rampart, gambling, thefts, rapes, murders, corruption in politicians, and now, let the booze flow.

What better way could the powers that rule control us than through our sins, and we let them do it.

Why dont we legalize Brothels and keep them open seven days a week? Good tax revenue for the State. We could open them on Sunday right after church. A person could go by the liquor store and then on to the Brothel LOL . Beats watching Football or Racing on the tube.

Do you know WHY paid sex between consenting adults is criminalized? Think about it.

Treating it as a legitimate business would result in:

- Health & Safety improvements
- Job opportunities
- Tax revenue

What's the downside again?

Quiz time!

Who pays more taxes?

A) The Church
B) A stripper

Who is 100% FraudFree?

A) The Church
B) A stripper (implants excepted -- we know they're fake sweetie)

But you are wrong when you prohibit running the brothel during church hours. The majority of citizens don't worship in your house. Some like redheads ;-)

i am a christian. i do not believe that drinking is a sin-i believe that anything done that hurts others is a sin-no matter what it is. if sunday sales are approved it doesnt mean that you have to buy it on sunday-that is a personal choice. people are going to drink-have illicit sex-do drugs-whatever they want to whether it is legal or not. it is each ones private choice whether to participate or not. i remember when you couldnt do anything on sundays-it really was mostly a family day and church day-did people drink then? yes...did people have illicit sex then? yes. we all have to make choices and do things we believe in-or not do things we dont believe in-if you think it is a sin to drink then dont do it. christians need to realize that some people do not believe in god and therefore are not under gods ruling-thats there problem not yours. we can only make our own choices and stop being so judgemental. i dont beleive in sex outside of marriage so i dont do it. i dont think that smoking pot is a sin but it is illegal-so i abide by the laws of the land-altho if it ever becomes legal i will definately smoke it lol...if the government really wants to generate some great tax revenue then lets legalize and control pot...that would probably generate more tax money than anything--except maybe cigs--which i do believe is a sin even tho i do smoke...the government is gonna do what it wants to and all we can do is stay true to our individual beliefs.

It's about time. It's also time to privatize. These stores are ridiculous. Free market.

yes i forgot that part-i think it should be privatized...my gosh in kentucky (and probably other places) you can buy liquor in the drugstores. i am from georgia and liquor stores are privatly owned there also- i dont understand why nc has state owned liquor stores but beer and wine are sold everywhere. strange laws i swear.

I never have understood the view of some churches that the drinking of spirits is a sin. Excess use of it, or anything else (like gluttony), is another matter. I have seen a lot of folks standing outside the church door on Sunday morning puffing on a cigarette and then they go in and "Amen" a sermon against alcohol. If preachers preached against cigarettes as much as they do alcohol, they would be looking for another job.

Privately-owned liquor stores have been allowed for years in many states, including Florida. These stores promote competition, and keep the prices of the various beverages reasonable. They still have to pay their taxes to the state, so the state is losing nothing. State-run stores are not cost-efficient and price-fix the beverages. As far as selling on Sunday, there's no reason not to do so. You can buy beer and wine in the grocery stores after 12 on Sundays, so the same should go for purchasing liquor. You can get just as drunk on beer and wine as you can on whiskey, vodka, rum, etc.

Are you so close to the edge of sin that you need laws to prevent you from doing it? Your public admission that Sunday liquor sales are the last thing keeping you from homosexuality is truly insightful.
I hope God does help you with your inner demons.

Daily Horoscope for December 27

Scorpio

If you haven't seen certain people during the past few days, how about inviting them over for a drink or a meal? You're feeling sociable and will enjoy doing some light entertaining although you'll draw the line at anything too strenuous. It's a lovely day for being in familiar surroundings with some familiar faces, even if all you do is flop on the sofa.
