My daughter started driving this year and she brought home a paper today for me to fill out so she could park on the parking lot. They are charging 15 dollars for the children to park!! And 35 dollars if they want to park near the building. Why are they charging for parking? We pay for our daughter to attend school now we are expected to pay for parking. This is unreal to me I do not understand why pay to park at a public school.I don't pay to park at walmart or anyone else.Where is this money going?
I may be over reacting but I do not understand why they are charging for kids to park on a parking lot.The schools principal was out on the parking lot with papers stopping all the children as they came in to the parking lots checking to see if they had paid and had their parking tag.

Sounds ridiculous to me! We never had to pay to park unless you wanted to park in the reserve spots that are closest to the building. I wander if the teachers and other staff have to pay to park? It would only seem fair if they did too.

Maybe its to maintain that parking lot! Maybe its to make sure that no one is in that parking lot that doesn't belong! I mean there are children there! Parent, you are right, THE BUS IS FREE!!:-)

Since LHS is a public high school, do we or do we not pay taxes and numerous other fees in order to keep the school, the parking lot, and etc. up. If we need to spend more money to keep the facilities and grounds up then the school board shouldn't have pissed away numerous dollars on several new cars in order to keep from having their budget lowered. If your child worked hard and saved their money to buy their own car would you tell them to ride the bus instead of paying 15 dollars?

my daughter worked to buy he car,her father and I do help her but she paid over half on her car and I will not make her park the car and ride the bus.I will pay the 15 I just do not understand why they are charging. It is stupid to charge to park.I think it all come back to the school board needing new cars and cell phones. Our tax dollars pay for the school and the parking lot so why should we pay even more.

Thumbs up "ALeeMom" just sounds suspicious to me. If it is for a particular reason with a good cause i wouldn't see the big deal. When i was in school i parked in the reserve spots "not because i was a spoiled prep", but because i worked for my money and that is just what i wanted to do. That being said my truck was broken into and my cell phone and some money and CDs got stolen. There is a camera over the reserve parking lot and i reported it, but nothing ever became of the situation. The point that I am trying to make is if 35 dollars wont protect your belongings then 15 dollars sure wont. If you do the math, there probably arent but maybe 150 students that drive at the most. 150 X $15=$2250??? just think about it

Have to pinch every penny they can out of the parents and students. How else are they going to afford their perks.

Well if they are going to charge they need cameras in all the parking lots not just covering the reserved lot by the building. How stupid.

I agree. especially with ALeeMom. everything changed alot this year! what is with the $1 thing? I hate the bus! I bet alot of kids do too. If they want to drive to school they should be able to! since some of them spend alot of their money on gas or their car! they have "tight" security on part of the school. they definately need to have more in the parking lots! they go by to look if they have tags & thats all they care about but that doesnt do any good. They waste paint for those paintings. I especially dont like the 1 in the gym & (what they did have) in the lunch room. I really really want to know what they do with our money

the money is probably going to pay for thousands of dollars it cost to repaint the school & to paint over students' artwork in the cafeteria. Doing roadblocks in the morning & making people late to school is rediculous permits could be checked during class just like they were when Mr. Early was there but you know everything must be dictated even down to which doors students can enter & exit. I think teachers should pay for parking just like we do. They are required to be there just like us & neither one of us really want to be there. If LHS is that hard up for money then teachers need to be charged too. Teachers aren't required to ride a bus if they don't pay at least $15 & neither should we especially since a lot of us leave early because we are seniors or we go straight to work

Maybe they spend their money like some other schools. 600.00 in steaks for a cookout for staff, Polo's for staff, and on and on. I don't believe the school system should be trying to turn a profit off the parents and children for their perks. All the money that they make from us should go back into doing something nice for ALL the children. It's not right the way some of them do.

Teachers get paid alot more than most people in this county do. Plus with pension and benefits it really adds up. They get their breakfast and lunch for free. Why should they be profiting off of parents and children of the school system for their perks? Why charge a child fifty cents for a fifteen cent snack or bottle of water.

Oh I'm sorry some of those snacks might cost them twenty cents. They're still making hundreds of dollars a week at one school off of snacks alone. I'm not against the teachers because that's not where most of the money is spent. Well maybe on a select few. I think most teachers and principals are decent. It's just a few that's giving them a bad name.

I can't speak for every school, but I know of 3 in the county where teachers do not get lunch, breakfast, or those "expensive" snacks free. They pay just like everyone else. I know of one school that does a end of the year appreciation cookout and another that does usually give their teachers a school shirt or bag for christmas for all their hardwork. I understand that u r just talking about the bad few that take advantage of situations, but as an aide in a Lee Co school I get tired of the faculty and staff always getting a bad name for everything. For the record, I don't understand the parking fee either, but that
shouldn't have turned the conversation in to what it did. God Bless.

I didn't mean this toward everyone. I should have made that clear. I am thankful every day for all the kind and caring staff in the school system. I didn't mean to offend teachers. Well the good ones anyways.

To be completely honest reserved parking has always been 35 dollars since lee high was established. The only reason she has been outside is because its unfair for some of us who have paid our 35 for reserved parking, yet students who have paid nothing park their cars there because it goes undetected. And the cameras watching over reserved parking are not on record regardless, therefore nothing is actually safe in any parking lot.

THe teachers have to pay for lunch at school just like the students. There is no free lunch program for teachers. Maybe people should show this much interest in what their children are studying, instead of what the teachers are wearing? how much snacks are? RIDICULOUS!

The "free" part of public schools and your tax money are to provide your child with a free education, not a place to park
