Speed traps! Hahaha! So the cops in Peninsula issue tickets to people who violate the speed. Were not talking about 5 miles over the speed limit either. Most of the cops give 15 miles over the speed limit before stopping and issuing a ticket. Other cops give 20, depending on the location and pedestrian traffic. Speed kills folks. It might not hurt the occupants in the car, however, the kids playing outside don't have 2,500 pounds of metal protecting them.

When the Sheriff's office "patrolled" Boston Township, the Peninsula Police Officer's were still dispatched to assist and sometimes handle calls for the Sheriff's department. Not to mention, they don't provide the service for free. The Sheriff's department charges each community a fee for patolling. I thought that was taken care of with the county sales tax.

The bottom line is that the National Parks, as beautiful as it is, is taking the revenue away from Peninsula. Can you imagine 142 properties that the Village can not receive taxes on. As a business owner, can you imagine having 142 steady customers that did NOT pay you any money each time they purchased something from you. Your company would go broke.

If each of those houses paid $1500 (for a 1/2 acre of land) a year in taxes that would equal approximately $213,000 the County and Village are missing out on.

Something has to be done to save both Boston Twp and Peninsula. This is nothing new. When the NPS came in during the 70's the tax base was destroyed! Bob Hunker isn't helping matters either.
Speeding tickets are given for a reason people! Small towns cops don't have to investigate stolen cars, drugs and murders like the big city cops do. That leaves them with patrolling for speeders and traffic violations. Peninsula cops also check in on the elderly, disabled and sick. I don't think you will find that in Akron or Cuyahoga Falls! Matt's post about the Summit County Sheriff are right on. I know first hand! I was in an auto accident on their watch. Glad it was nothing serious!
