well I think Ronald Hooker should get life in prison because he deserves that amount and more I was a great friend to Abel Viesca and he had no right to die he was a great kid and that is my comment that man should get justice and get sentenced to life.

Abel may have been a great friend to you. But, I don't think you know what you are talking about. I happen to know both individuals and There is way more to the story than you are talking about.

Abel was not a "great kid". He could have been, he had the potential. At his young age he had an extensive criminal record already, with tattoos on his body bragging about "6" arrests and the night in question, he was three times the legal limit of drunk and had methamphetamines in his system too. His own father admitted on the stand that he had ran a meth lab. Great people indeed.

As for Ronald Hooker. A good quiet man who was shy and kept to himself. He had never even had a traffic ticket. He was threatened that night and defended himself. They came to him, he did not go looking for him. The boys were no at his door. They were peeking in his window and hollering they were coming in to get him.

Ronald had no phone to call for help and he knew there were two or more (turns out there were more, but they ran away when the shots were fired). He did not want to be cornered in his house and I don't know how many people would.

I think you should all put yourself in that position and see how you would react. You might very well find that you might have reacted much the same way.

We are talking about a man that has never in his 46 years of life done anything remotely similar to what those boys were doing to him.

I think the remaining boy ought to be prosecuted for criminal trespassing and Ronald Hooker should not have been charged with no more than manslaughter and I am not even certain he should have been found guilty for that.

Don't think this type of harrassment is over either. Because, this is just the beginning of this type of problem.

I think Hooker should be given a prize.

Like the 25 cent bling you get in grocery stores.

No prize. No glory. Just let the man go home to his family. Trust me. He won't be any trouble to society.

I think he would appreciate peace and quiet and being left alone a whole lot more. I've known him all of his life and he didn't really have anything fancy or seem to want it. He just wanted to be left alone.

Who would provide the prize? Abel Viesca's potential victims of future crimes had he lived? There is not much doubt society would have had plenty to fear from him.

You people should be ashamed and for the one who says you knew abel... from what I can see you did NOT know him as a person.. Abel was full of life and love and laughter. He was and ALWAYS will be a great person.Hooker should have got more. neither boy deserved any of this nor did their families. they have and had a full life to look forward too. Hooker did not fear for his life or he wouldnt have backed them to the street. If he had no intention on shooting either boy he would have just scared them off ever hear of firing in the air????? I know what I would have done in Hooker shoes I would have SHOT IN THE AIR NOT TAKE A CHILDS LIFE!!!! NOW TRY BEING IN THE KIDS FAMILIES SHOES!!!!

Well for one i knew Abel and his brothers very well. He was awesome was planning a family and doing great. Had changed his life around. Hooker took that all away from him. Abel loved everyone, was funny as the dickens and just a love to be around. Always the peace maker of the boys. Did the boys go there with guns? NO they didnt. Cold Blooded Yes!!!! Hooker needs to rot. People can change their lives around and Abel was proof of that. The guy didnt even give him or chris a chance. He was still a child for heavens sake. Abel and Chris werent the type to stand outside a window and yell at someone. They are straight forward kids who will reason out a problem not cause one for no reason. Sorry ya all your full of crap!!!!!!! God Bless you Abel WE MISS YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!!!!! LOVE YOU ABEL

No the only prize Hooker gets is the pain he caused Abel and all the ones that truely loved him. And the fact that he shot a child in cold blood and almost a second one to boot. No one had anything to fear from Abel. Give me a break.

Ron had had that gun for 30 years and it had never even been fired before. He was not someone looking for trouble. He never looked for trouble in his entire life. I know, because that is how long I have known him. He had never even had a traffic ticket. All he wanted was to be left alone.

I also know Abel and I am saddened by his death. Every death is a tragedy. He was a likeable kid, but he was not without guilt in this incident. He was also no angel. He was in trouble a lot. At his young age he had six convictions and the number proudly tatooed on him. He also fathered two children at this young age. I have seen no evidence that he took care of them. One of them died at six months of age so he may not have had the chance to be a father there.

But, Abel had not turned his life around. Let's look at the facts. He was 3 times the legal limit of drunk at the time of the incident. And under the influence of methamphetamines also. Puking in Ron's yard prior to returning and threatening Ron. That sure sounds like someone who has turned their life around...from what?

What was his sister, who happened to be on probation herself, doing giving her brother alcohol? She should be in trouble too.

The other boy is also in a family involved in drug activity. His sister was recently arrested for traffiking; so you cannot believe everything he has to say about that night.

Abel had already been chased away fom Ron's house once the same night. And he returned with back-up the second time and in the middle of the night. That does not sound like anyone not looking for trouble. He was definitely up to no good. They were threatening and there were other people there too. They had Ron surrounded. He felt he had no choice. Abel was coming at with his fists raised at Ron when he fired. Raising the gun in the air to fire at that point would probably have made the chance that Ron was the one hurt more likely. He defended himself. That's it. He doesn't want a prize. He simply wants what he has always wanted, to live his life without harrassment.

Did he use the same kind of language you do? Well, then that would certainly qualify him as "good" wouldn't it? Just what do you define as "a good kid"? Everything I've seen and heard seems to be that a person that jokes around and has a good sense of humor is "good"...Doesn't matter if they have a criminal record, father children out of wedlock, drink, do drugs, trespass, deface other's property, or threaten someone minding their own business; as long as they keep those jokes a coming, they are "good".

I'll keep my definition of "good" thank you very much. And Abel simply was not "good". I am sure he was loved despite his faults. I don't doubt that for a minute.
