For many years I have wondered exactly what happened with my old college buddy Roger Wichman from Pender. I went to Pender many times with him, Bob Anderson, Roger McQuistan, and others from the area 50 years ago. I almost hate to ask because I have had rumors that the information about him is not good, but I would like to know more about his fate. He was a great guy and I treasure his memory if he is indeed gone.

Roger was my cousin. He was as pilot killed in Vietnam, Nov. 8, 1969. I believe the story goes that his plane was hit by enemy fire and he ejected but the seat from the aircraft hit him on the way down. He still has brothers and a sister in Pender. He had two sons, one a veterinarian in Virginia. Contact me at deegee1137 (at) suddenlink.net if you want more information.

Roger used to fly my aircraft, 56-2911, every once in awhile. We got along well, I liked him. We had pictures taken of him and I standing in front of my "ready for bear" bird.
It was such a shock to learn that such a wonderful guy never made it back home......I salute you, Roger. In my mind, I've brought you home.
