Deal could keep embezzler from jail
Ruth Ann Ramsay embezzled nearly $125,000 from her Perham employer. But the 51-year-old Perham woman might never see a day in jail after a plea hearing Monday in Otter Tail County District Court.

Most people are not aware that Judge Barb Hanson rejected the plea agreement that would have kept Ramsay out of jail because she felt that it would set a poor precedent in view of the crime. Ramsay will most likely spend time in jail and be subject to many years of probation and have to pay the plaintiff additional non-legal fees in addition to the 125,121.00 that she already paid back to the plaintiff. The civil suit is now dismissed because of the payment. What continues is the criminal proceeding with a pre-trial hearing in February 09. I would invite the prospect of Ramsay going to criminal trial because the evidence against her is so overwhelming and there is absolutely no chance of a jury finding her innocent of charges in view of evidence. The wheels of justice turn slowly but they do turn. Stay tuned, this is far from over!

I am truly surprised that she still had the money to pay it back! Usually they spend it as fast as they steal it! I am a little confused why you would steal it if you don't need it? I am glad that the judge is still taking this a little farther.
