Actually according to the website you linked, three breeds make up the "breed" pit bull:
1) American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT)
2) American Staffordshire Terrier (AMSTAFF)
3) Staffordshire Bull Terrier (STAFFY)
In my link, "Labradors" are considered a breed. In fact, there are 3 main types of the breed "Labrador Retriever"....the black, yellow and chocolate. There are also the lesser known silver lab and fox red lab.
I'm not saying the stats are the be all and end all of the argument. But I think it is obvious that the breeds that make up the pit bull "family" are much more inclined to attack causing bodily harm or death.
Actually it is a well know problem that most law enforcement will credit an attack to a pit bull from dogs that just look like one of those. Of the many other breeds (and mixes) which can be mistaken for a pit bull, none match the popularity of the breeds you listed. That is one of the reasons I don't consider it a huge factor (but it is a factor none the less).

So, Pit Bull Man, what about my earlier post, no matter what kind of dog you have, if your dog commits murder or assault, you, the owner serves the time in prison for it. Murder, life or the death penalty depending on what state you live in. What do you think about that? I do not give a c r a p what kind of dog you have, institute this penalty and watch the problem go away. You keep talking about training the dog correctly, than you should be for this proposal since you are absolutely sure your pit bulls will never attack anyone. Step up to the plate.
I agree with you 100% about responsibility and have no issue with taking the responsibility and insuring it. To blame a specific breed is just silly, all dogs should be required to carry insurance if they are inside the city.

Numbers don't lie...they don't. Over 1000 attacks in the last 20 years...over 500 were maulings and over 100 were deaths. You find me equivalent numbers for any breed and you win...but you can't. The Rots have half as much...they are bad as well...but Pits are in a league of their own.

The breed that you have in your mind is in reality 25 breeds. 25 types of dogs that are all similar in nature and size. I question any study that is not breed specific. There is no breed in the AKC or UKC that is called Pit Bull how can this possibly be taken seriously.

25 types of dogs, of this size, could easily account for the numbers you reference.

Actually if you would have read the statistics you would have noticed that im referring to the American PitBull Terrier. It just shows that you don't read the oppositions facts.

I am not talking about insurance, I am talking about life in prison or the death penalty if your dog kills a person, pitbull, golden retreiver or collie, I do not care what kind of dog, all the same to me, dog does the crime, you do the time. What do you think of that? After all, you chose to have whatever kind of dog you choose and if you do not train it adequately and it kills someone, you pay with your life or spend life in prison for murder. Well, you going to man up?
Ofcourse the PBP won't...they want to blame the owners for everything and some have even blamed the child for being around the dog...thats how despicable some of these PBP's are.
