I hope the city does not play "chicken little" with their new siren. At the time this warning came, I was looking at radar on weather.com . The storm was 15 to 20 miles north-northwest of the city of Natchitoches and moving in a northeasterly direction. There was no way the storm was going to hit the city of Natchitoches.

This is the second time the warning has gone off with no chance of severe weather hitting the city. If this routine keeps up, the citizens will start ignoring the siren and warning. Then when the real one comes, some may not heed the warning.

All I am saying is that someone in charge needs to really use some common sense on this and quit sounding the alarm when there is nothing to sound the alarm about.

I know that some will say it is better to be safe than sorry. But when there is zero chance of a severe storm or tornado hitting the city, why sound the alarm? Natchitoches is a huge parish. If the warning is given for extreme northern Natchitoches Parish, such was the case, there is no reason to sound the alarm in the city.

It may be that the system is hardwired to announce a warning for the parish whether it is close to the city or not. It may be that the Nat'l. Weather Service takes over the system and announces a warning no matter where in the parish the storm is. I don't know how "automatic" this system is. There may be nothing they can do about that.

personally I would rather have the warning than not. it may get irritating after a while, but if it makes people take notice of the weather around them, i think that is a good thing.

Agreed. While i think there is a lot of potential to having the warning sirens, I also think there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.

the damn sirens have gone off 3 or four times!!!why is everybody so pissed???i'm sure they'll work the kinks out soon...until then if you can smell the dirt and know there is "zero" chance of severe weather then just ignore the sirens...luckily natchitoches usually avoids the worst parts of the storms, something i've never been able to figure out...but i like the fact the if the electricity is out i'll know if some bad wether is ANYWHERE around...

I live in a mobile home outside the city limits, about five minutes out, and would love to have sirens to warn us.

Anyone think there's a chance of tornadoes coming here today or tonight?
It seems the reports are conflicting...:(

All you have to do is call City Hall and tell them you would like to be notified of sever weather warnings and give them your phone number. They will call you every time the sirens go off.

I meant "severe".

Could it be the space ship buried under the old courthouse has its cloaking shield on to disguise the all the trailers in and around the city.

Sirens have gone off again this afternoon. Storm is in the Marco, Chopin, Colfax, Bentley, Pollock area and moving east. And the sky is falling.

the sirens are obviously set to natchitoches parish and not just the city limits...i still don't see a problem...if nothing else, it will make people take note of the weather and make the necessary adjustments...again, we're lucky to have such a service...you act like everytime the sirens go off there has to be damage done inside the city limits...i don't understand your reasoning at being so upset at a service meant to protect you and yours...

I'm not upset at the service. Is the warning system parish wide or city wide? Is it designed to warn the citizens of the parish or the city? If this system is parish wide then I humbly apologize to all concerned. If the system is city wide, then I will stand by my comments.

Well does anyone know if it is parish wide? It went off again this morning because a tornado was approaching Campti.
