When his professors drone, Dan Kautz whips out his phone. Kautz, a senior at Wilkes University, might send a text message to someone across the room - "I can't wait to get out of here" - or make plans with his roommates.

What texters DON'T understand is that they OFTEN bother or distract others around them, either by their distraction or the keyboard clicks or other sounds. This is VERY annoying, especially to students who are in class, DON'T find the class activities 'boring,' and are ON TASK to do well academically. These people do not have a RIGHT to text and they certainly don't have a RIGHT to disturb instruction or those around them!

Welcome to the new world of "rude social manners". During our Thanksgiving meal, my niece managed to have a conversation with me in between her texting on her cell phone to her friends. I also saw this happening in a very nice resturant one evening with a group of young people. It was a party of 8. Most were ingaged in conversaton, but at least 3 of them kept looking down to type on their phones. That is just crazy! I can see why it should be illegal to drive and text. It is just not safe.

Some of my classmates are doing that while we are on class.I'm just wondering why teachers seems not to see them while doing that. They don't even listen to our lesson for that day. Then after class they would be asking others what the topic is all about! It's just so annoying.

I'm wondering which educational institution is going to be the first to utilize electronic jamming technologies within classrooms.

I can tell you that if I do decide to go into teaching after I retire from my current career, I will definitely do so for my classroom. They are actually quite inexpensive too. A nice 20m radius jammer would certainly do the trick, and I am not worried about the legality. Nobody in the U.S. has ever been charged with using one. Not to mention it is very easy to hide a portable jammer.
