I moved from Tucson, AZ about a year and a half ago and they had a very good recycling program. Each city household is issued a recycling barrel and a trash barrel (about 60 gal size each). We found that most of our "trash" went into the recycle barrel. The trucks would pick up the recyclables mixed. Sorting was done at central facility. Check out for details.
