To Rev Kev, I was there at the same time you were. I remember those names very well. You forgot Sister Timothy Marie, Sister Raphael and Sister Rupert and of course , Sister Marie Therese, kindergarten nun. The covers all of my teachers. Sister Joseph Michael? a saint that I was lucky enough to have for two years in a row.
I still find it sad that you feel you were abused and cannot even mention the names of the nuns who abused you. They are probably all gone by now so where is the harm? The elderly public school teachers!!!! I thought you only suffered at the hands of the nuns. Now all of a sudden there are public school teachers involved?
And if all this did really happen, shame on your parents for not intervening. I know my parents would have investigated if I came home hurt from being in school.
I believe that "elderly public school teachers" means the lay teachers at Assumption. There were several, Mrs. Johnson being one although I am using her name as an example of a lay teacher, NOT as an example of someone who was abusive.
There goes your credibility!

Mrs. Johnson, Wow! I can still visualize the beautiful, seasonal art work she used to draw on the side blackboard in color chalk. Her Easter Bunnies we beautiful. Funny, the things you remember. She gave us especially pretty stickers, too.

I attended Assumption from 1956-1963. I was one of maybe two people of color in the entire school. There were many incidents of slapping, and there were days when I didn't understand the treatment. But it was the way of the times (good, bad, or indifferent). There were some very caring nuns and some really sadistic ones. We know now there were many demons hiding in the rectory and St Joseph's home.
I got away with an excellent education and foundation for the world.
The experience of catholic school has soured my outlook on the catholic church.

Wow, it looks like we attended the same school. Except my Assumption school was 1960 in southeast Washington DC. It was a prison and the abuse there was severe for us problem children. I do remember Sister Jean Andre.
